Like many, I'm disappointed we weren't able to strengthen the squad further but it is what it is, and we now have to get behind the squad, the chairman, Dougie and PV.

NINE PL clubs spent over 100m pounds during this last window. We simply can't compete with that kind of spending power, especially if the inflated prices seen become the benchmark for future windows, which leads me on to what can our strategy be?

We haven't spent 20m on the Academy just to look good. This last window has seen more youngsters out on loan than I can remember. Some of them, such as Rak-Sakyi, Plange and Adamarola, might come back from their loans better equipped to risk in the PL squad. Others may need further loans or be sold to raise funds for our own transfer business.

It is noteworthy IMO that we have loaned out 10 of our U21s and the rest of that squad has started their league season well and are currently joint top with Arsenal (same goal difference and same goals scored etc.) That bodes well for the future.

It will be interesting to see how well youngsters on the fringe of the 1st team squad develop this year.

Agreed we don't splash the cash but remember we have been in administration twice in the last 30 years or so. Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I don't believe any of the other current EPL teams have been in administration once.

Actually 5 clubs, including CPFC:
Bournemouth 1997 & 2008
Leicester 2002
Leeds 2007
Southampton 2009

I did have to look that lot up, as I'd forgotten about Bournemouth & Southampton. There was talk of Everton being in dire financial straits last year, but either that was BS or they've managed to find a load of cash from somewhere - probably the Richarlison deal - to allow them to spend a bit.

Not worried. Almost a whole team out on loan. Icing on cake would be a loan to Chelsea.

So more double talk from PV who is clearly thinking he must follow the party line. Last week he stated that we needed several more players as the squad was small. Now it’s all good and he is happy with what he has. Now it can’t be both can it lol

I think Vieira helped provide some insight when he said:

He's got enough to work with but if injuries take their toll we'll be in trouble. Best news is that Zaha stays and Decoure looks pretty decent. Are we still open for a loan ... or did that also close at 23.00 last night?

Completely agree. We haven't got money to waste so we need the be sensible.

To be fair I wont lose sleep over Edwards. Good, useful money for a league 1 team. But he wont be in the first team so wouldn't have made an immediate impact.

The 2 that I'm still surprised about is

Aouar - if there was any truth in the fee mentioned, and the fact that there are connections to the club it 'could' have happened. If Eze gets injured we are lacking in central creativity.

Gilmore - at 9m it feels like good business for a young, industrious midfielder.

We still have a good first team, but are 1 injury away from Luka playing, which isn't a comforting thought. And not offering Kouyate a 2 year contract now looks like a bad move.

I heard on the athletic podcast (maybe) that Aouar is sitting his contract out and will probably go somewhere with champions league football next season, Gilmore was terrible for Norwich last season.

By the next window we will have only played 18 league games, so others may have done their money, and the prices may show some reality, i think we have kept our powder dry, can i patent "kept our powder dry, Willo.

A good point. With the World Cup chopping the season in half there is an extra month when no games are happening. Perhaps a good time to reassess and go stronger to make deals happen ? Problems could be PV recently publicly stated we were at least 2 players short. Obviously we went for these type of players but they haven't materialised in the window. Could be a number of reasons why and only behind the scenes will know the reason/s. Let's hope that the likes of Eze continues his good form, Olise starts to fire and others improve, no run of injuries etc. or it might get choppy behind the scenes.
