It's been well documented in recent years that South London is a real hotbed of football talent - arguably the best in world currently. I think there was a recent stat that around 45% of the England players through all age groups combined were from South London.

You don't need to be a rocket scientist to put two and two together here. We are ideally placed as the only South London based PL team and should be all over this and hoovering up the young talent. I guess the bigger question is whether our academy coaches up to scratch? - should we have more youth players coming through?

However, all you need is 1 quality player to emerge every 3 years for it to be a success. We've had Mitchell, AWB and Zaha who have all gone on to play for England in the past decade. Prior to that Moses and Routledge have done well. We seem to have a constant stream of promising youngsters in the pipeline, hopefully Rak-Sakyi will have a successful loan with The Clowns and become a first team regular next season.

I will add that our recruitment appears to have dramatically improved since the arrival of PV - perhaps we've now got the best of both? The future is bright for Palace.

Outside of the financial argument. Clubs have consistently shown that its hard in early years to spot all the right talent. 2 close to home examples.

Olise was released from Arsenal, Chelsea and Man City

Eze released from Arsenal, Fulham, Reading, Millwall

2 players that will play the remainder of their career at PL level and command a decent fee if they move. Both would ahve been looked at by 100's of skilled coaches

I think Eze was picked up by QPR at 18 and Olise at 16

So is there an argument that before these kids have started to mature its close to impossible to know who has a chance. And instead focus on 17 and older when physically you have a better understanding.
