Maybe 2 months ago, PV mentioned "Nathan" in a presser (in some context) it took me over an hour to work out who "Nathan" was........ he had pretty much dropped off my radar as a part of the squad, so if he got 45 minutes yesterday that's certainly a more positive update.

We brought him in as a sicknote, and he's been a sicknote ever since. Curious to know what hope the club holds out for him given his injury status so far.

the worse thing that can happen is he starts to play in the new year we offer him a new contract and then ...........

sorry to be picky but it was the 2nd goal onto Jimmy Macs head.

3rd goal was an injury time free kick by Chungy onto Tekkers head.

Last saw Fryers play at Stockport last season (conference) as the left side of a 3 man CB. Was released at the end of his contract

My thoughts exactly.

Across between Wickham & Tekkers, end of contract, play your heart out, earn new contract, return to the norm.

I'm just a softie so I'm willing to see if his injury problems are simply a combination of bad luck/growing pains or a genuine case of his body simply not being, and never going to be, up to the rigours of PL football.

He's just turned 22 (last month) and if he really does have the quality needed and does overcome his injury past, we could have a real gem for years to come (or until we sell him for a tidy profit).

It's a tricky proposition for the club how the right back position is handled moving forward.
The guy who has the best fitness record, Ward, is 33 and has a contract that expires at the end of the season.
Clyne does not have a great fitness record and also has a contract running out at the end of the season.
Ferguson is perpetually injured and there is no current basis to plan on him being a first team regular right back.
Richards was purchased as a central defender who could also provide cover at right back, but he also had a poor injury record before he joined.
There is a rumour that AWB could join on loan, but with Man Utd wanting us to have an obligation to buy at the end of the loan which could well prove too expensive to strike a deal.
In my view we should rely on Ward and Clyne to see us through the season and have a new right back lined up for the summer with either Clyne or Ward offered a one year extension for competition.
AWB is proven at the level, knows the club and has potential to improve.
However, if we can't do a deal let's move on to other targets and try and avoid a replication of the Gallagher situation where our energies were consumed by a transfer that never materialised.

I tend to agree but another month, another set back. He now has the same injury Eze suffered. Unfortunately it appears the man is made of glass and it’s the brittle rather than toughened variety. Such a shame, but it’s a brutal game and we can’t keep carrying him.

Surely there must come a time in a players mind, after another setback, that he realises he is not cut out for this particular game, despite all best intentions. And also be told by a medical professional that an accumulation of injuries may affect his physical well being in the future.

You would think that there must come a time when the clubs insurance company gets involved & declares that insuring a particular player is a risk not worth taking -

Complete speculation on my part but that line had probably already been crossed with the contract extension .

He is more likely now to be filed under losses with unsold hot dogs in the tax return
