How do we know for sure he is still on £120k/wk. When he got a 2 year contract renewal last year, are we sure the wage was maintained. He was already failing dismally then. Surely our directors would not have sanctioned the £120k for 2 more years.

The fact that we were so desperate to keep him that we gave him a 2 year contract means anything is possible with regards to wages. No wonder he won’t leave nobody in their right mind will pay him what we are. Maybe he actually contributes something to the team we don’t see….perhaps he’s in charge of the half time cuppa ?

100% agree. Assumptions. I bet he took a huge cut.

Exactly, we should never have sold Glen Murray

As i have said numerous times before, Benteke signed an extension before his existing contract had run out, jf we had offered him less money he could have legally walked for free, and get a nice signing on fee, decent wages and a lower standard of football elsewhere were he could have played, i think the club gambled on a two year extension at the same wages hoping someone would buy him now for at least 6m or hopefully more as he was about to walk at the end of his contract, so they would get the money back for his one year wages, so unless someone comes in with a 6m plus offer now it has backfired.

Not this again. (I have no idea if he gets less money now).

You are correct he did not have to sign his new contract and could walk at the end of it. However the club was entitled to offer him a new contract on less money and if he wanted to stay he could agree it. They are not obliged to offer him the same terms or better, it's marked forces.

At the company I worked for they decided to force the IT staff to take a 10% pay cut or they could leave. Most of the staff took the hit only a couple walked.

A colleague was impacted and was present at the meeting. He told me one guy stood up very angry and said to the rest of them "we're not going to take this, are we men or mice"?

What happened I asked him? "What do you think! The rest of us went squeak squeak".

I worked in IT for about 10 years and this salary cutting happened about 3/4 times. The people affected were IT contractors on short term deals but it was disgusting you agree to employ someone on a rate and then cut it shortly afterwards. The talent of course left within a couple of months hardly surprising.

I am of the opinion he took a wage drop, no evidence however

But where is Murray now? I do think we got rid of Glen too soon, perhaps Pardew’s “ I want to be the main man” attitude had something to do with that

This. He has made it clear he wants to stay in London and, at the time, the only plausible alternative was Fulham who had Mitrovic.
