They were using their judgement to decide what was in the country's best interest, risking their political future in the process. In short, they were behaving with the integrity so bereft of Johnson. It was then that his total lack of decency and fitness for office was laid bare. Instead of trying to find ways to heal divisions, he widened them and laid down the path that led to today. They took a decision (with which you agree) out of concern for the country and good conscience. He took a decision (with which you disagree) out of self interest and contempt.

Starmer already saying he will renegotiate the Brexit deal if he gets in power. I'd think very carefully if I were a Leaver in the former Red wall or other marginal seats. A vote for Labour means a back door into the EU again. We voted for Boris Johnson and until we vote for someone else, the Tory back benchers have no mandate to remove him. I'm sure some of the Remainers in the Tories would even be happy to lose an election to get us back into Europe. You voted for Boris if you live in Uxbridge - otherwise you voted for your MP. He may want to be president but actually he's just one more MP - that's how our system works.

Very funny. That you think so is completely unsurprising. You have never grasped what the job of an MP actually is and seem to think that they are sent to Parliament simply to vote the way their electorate expect them to. They aren't. They are our representatives. We pay them to study, consult and think and then decide what is in our best interests. Those that do that, have integrity, especially when they know it's unpopular. Those that feed the popular mood, when they believe it to be a mistake, don't have integrity. They are populists. Like Johnson.

Closer than I thought it would be and it now makes it difficult for him to stay long term.

Those MPs were elected in the Mrs May GE after the referendum and they agreed to support Brexit which was the main plank of the manifesto . Once elected they did everything in their power to prevent it. There was nothing noble about that lying to the electorate and at the Johnson GE none of them survived because the public saw them for what they were. Liars. The only ones I had sympathy for were the tiny handful around Ken Clarke who was openly a Remainer and told his voters that before the election. At least the public knew what they were voting for then.

Beginning to suspect the divisions of Brexit are now so engrained in us all that there is simply no way back to any kind of unity. Ultimately, it will lead to English nationalism destroying the Union and then we are into unchartered waters. The Remain side are still intent on getting us back into the EU, by hook or by crook, and the Brexit side will have to essentially promote an England first policy to prevent that. Suspect that the next Government will be essentially dependent on SNP votes and that is going to rip the UK in half. Dark days ahead.

The choice between Hunt and Starmer is too much even for our electorate. It's like a choice of which ball you want crushed between two bricks.
