Before forming a view on Gueye or Kouyate...

Firstly, you'd have to be sure that Gueye refused to play in the shirt, which neither player nor club have confirmed, I believe.

Secondly, if he refused to wear the shirt, you'd need to know exactly why.

Gueye's reasons make all the difference in the world.

If Gueye refused to wear the shirt because he dislikes identity politics, commercial virtue-signalling, or the replacement of reasoned and respectful debate with echo-chamber ignorance then I support his position.

If he refused to wear the shirt because he fears the repercussions in his homeland, then I might just about accept that as limited mitigation, though plenty of other Senegalese players have worn such shirts/laces etc.

If he refused to wear the shirt because he believes homosexuality is wrong for social, political or religious reasons then the bloke is a f***ing idiot, and Kouyate is too for supporting him.

If it does transpire that the third reason is the one to explain Gueyes absence from the team, then (1) repercussions must follow and (2) anyone tempted to rejoice in Gueye's actions should take a look at themselves.

I despise the unreasonable left, and the trend toward mindless, superficial but widespread support for ideas based in identity politics, but I also despise a bigot.

My enemy's enemy is not my friend.

I don't get Queer I know what it means but it was always an insult to call a gay person that.

It's a bit like calling a black person the n word as it's OK for them to call each other that but not for us honkies.

The same seems to apply for the Q word as gay comedians on Live At The Apollo seem to refer to themselves that way frequently

I think in queer theory, specific sexual preferences (even if you're attracted to the opposite sex) can be classed under the queer umbrella. Basically so anyone can join in the rainbow club if they want.

Yes, most of us know that. Strangely, though, those upholders of Senegalese moral virtues like Gueye and Kouyate seem less bothered about it when the chance to earn millions in a country where homosexuality IS legal is on offer. Morality when it suits you, eh? Such is the modern footballer.

This is pretty much where I'm at with this.

Neither Gueye nor CK objected with wearing shirts promoting gambling or alcohol either which makes the sudden religious dogma all the more confusing.

Maybe we should stop sending International Aid to countries where homosexuality is illegal. Otherwise surely we are supporting Governments who do not have the same values as us. Just a suggestion

I think you'll find if you buy at least two or three major sports clubs then as a country you're free to commit as many atrocities as you wish. Saudi Arabia executed 81 men in one day, but they also bought Dan Burn and Kierran Trippier, so these things balance out*

Agreed.
Have we not been lectured over the years regarding accepting the beliefs of Muslims? Well, now we have Muslims standing up for their beliefs, but as these do not fit with the lefts views on other issues, the players are castigated and there has been calls for them to be sacked.

I would also to know what opinions PV has made that he do not cont, as stated earlier in this thread

Trouble is that Muslims in the general public want Jake Daniels banned from football. Kouyate can wear whatever colour combination of the 2 choices available however.

I heard, but never really particularly looked into it, that the UK gives aid to China (sounds crazy - surely not true?), and more believable - India. I couldn't help thinking that India are basically richer than us - despite how they treat their poor. I have also seen several reports that the 'Aid' is basically sweeteners for business/ contracts in many cases - that I would tend to believe.
Perhaps aid can get us the best footballers too? I'm not going to judge Kouyate. That rugby player, Folau, had a similar thing to Gueye. I guess Kouyate is now in the Vunipola category. This is what went on for a while:

I dread to think of Brighton away and Kouyate currently.

I think the important point to note is that freedom of speech does not mean freedom from consequence. Kouyate is in a position of power as a public figure and said something that appears to go against the club's official equality policy (available on the club's website) and therefore he is liable to be punished. What it may come down to is what he meant when he said 'a real man'. It comes across that he is suggesting that gay men are not 'real men' (whatever that means). If that was not the case then he can clarify and apologise and we can move on. If he intended to make the misguided and homophobic statement that gay men are not 'real men' then I can't see any way back for him at Palace given his contract is up. As I said, you can have your opinions but if you choose to air them publicly there are consequences.

I keep reading this from progressives. Not really freedom of speech then is it? You can say what you like but you’ll be prosecuted. Of course there should be boundaries, such as real hate and not the modern version of being offended, and of course threats and actual violence. To be punished for what you believe isn’t freedom in any way you could argue. He’s shown support for a player and some want his contract negotiations cancelled. Utterly stupid. Would you lose Olise, Eze and Zaha as well in one go and get relegated because they supported their pal? Get a grip. Really. This is football not Chakrabiti’s FC human rights virtue signalling movement.
