After watching Rangers today...getting Joe Aribo in place of Conor if he doesn’t come back would be a good move... Calvin Bassey would also be a top signing....think Villa will be interested in him...what were Leicester thinking when they let him go??

So 12th position it is.
In the 9 years in the Prem we have finished between 10th and 15th.

The 10th position included a 2 place gain on the last day of the season and the 15th was when we were focused on the FA cup final.

So really we are an 11th to 14th team.

Therefore 12th is ok and gives us a good foundation from which to build.

There is not much to choose between 8th and 15th in the table - all can beat each other on their day (we got the double over Wolves yet failed to beat or score against Leeds etc).

A couple of decent signings - especially in midfield, and extra cover in defence IMHO - and being a little more solid next year (concede less late goals, less set pieces etc) and a top 10 is a possibility

Could the moderators please stop all unfoundedly optimistic "next few matches" threads please?

'Can we win our next 7 matches?'
'Top half finish?'
'Eighth place is on'
etc ...

I don't think that's fair of you to say, I was going to start a thread entitled 'next season' in which I could explain that by winning our first 30 games, then getting 18 or more points from the next 8 we could very well be champions!

It's similar to what that bloke used to post on TT, was is Mattteo? Saw a few posts suggesting he was hounded off of here!

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

If we got 108 or more points, I guarantee Liverpool would still finish above us!

We should have finished higher... lots of lost points, brighton and arsenal spring to mind. (How long ago do they feel like??!)

Agree.

Drawing with the likes of Burnley and Norwich is very poor then losing to Newcastle and Leeds.

Finishing behind Brighton and Newcastle is very poor we should of finished 9-10.

Stat wise its misleading we look to have a good defense but when you look at the goals they was result changing ones also a lot of them was preventable we didn't ever learn to defend those set pieces.

And yet:
1. We conceded the fewest goals ever in our 13 PL seasons.
2. We haven't conceded at home in the PL in our last FIVE games.
3. In the first half of the league we scored 27 and conceded 27.
but in the second half we scored 23 and conceded 19.

The defence is getting better, which bodes well for next season.

You have missed the point.

The conceded goals are important ones as pointed out and most are from the same type of play.

This shows that looking at only stats doesn't tell the true story.

Here is a example we are 7th for conceded goals yet we finished 12 in the league

Another one Burnley 10th for conceded goals relegated.

Wolves goals conceded 5th and goals scored 17th finished 10 in league.

I take your point GM.
I haven't checked, but I think the majority of goals conceded from set pieces came in the first half of the season. Hopefully, our defending of such balls will to improve next season.
