Why would any points total that avoids relegation this season be disappointing? We are a team/club very much in transition and we’re favourites for relegation. I am sure you were very much in that camp.
If we avoid relegation and continue to play the same way, I forone, would be very pleased

There was a degree of early season promise and optimism which has somewhat dissipated to an extent but I always believed there would be bumps in the road on our journey.

We have spent nigh on £76 Mill, signed some good players and play more attractive football,so perhaps just avoiding relegation with a points total less than we have attained before in the PL might be considered somewhat disappointing by some supporters.

In terms of being in a "Camp", at the start of the season, given the players we signed, I was cautiously optimistic about our prospects and I had 3 others teams to slip through the relegation trapdoor.

I couldn't agree more. Yes we've spent £76m and may not get as many points as Roy did in previous seasons but I don't think that we will be relegated, we are far too good for that. We are playing much more attractive football and our prospects for the future are promising. Also Darren Ambrose said that we should be looking forward to an exciting Sumner transfer window, so hopefully some good incomings.

We are a team in progress after the stonewall approach in previous years.

If we match last season's points I will be satisfied pretty safe in the knowledge we will improve as Vieira gains experience.

He has started well and apart from a rigid adherence to 4-3-3 and some questionable substitutions the future with him looks bright.

I am hopeful we will emulate the 'team of the 70's' and become the team of the 2200s as we pursue the establishment of talented youngsters.

I don't remember Palace ever being called 'the team of the 70s'. We were once called 'the team of the 80s', but that accolade evaporated after a few months of reality

Palace since 19 August 1972. Palace 1 (Tony Taylor) Liverpool 1 (Emlyn Hughes)

We hadn’t even left the 70’s when it started to evaporate, getting stuffed 3-0 by Liverpool and Brighton in December 79 started the rot

Indeed, I was there! That's why I said: "a few months" ie after the euphoria of May 1979.

Thrashing the then mighty Ipswich and beating Forest the European champions, just for a few months, we probably were the best team in the country. We should’ve been called “the team of the August to November 1979’s”

The current objective has to be just to stay up, if we play to our current average points total we will make 38/39 points, safety will only be assured when our points total cannot be surpassed by the teams in the bottom three positions. just for the record in 2002 West Ham were relegated with 42 points (38 games season) and ourselves 1993 with 49 points (42 games season).
