The FA got the result it needed to keep interest in their product alive. No money to be wrung out of a competition that is virtually over in January. Edited by southnorwoodhill (24 Jan 2022 9.39am)

Gallagher is arguably our most influential player / wins most balls back off the opposition / drives with an energy to disrupt the opposition - supports the attack on the edge of the box, having the ref shackling him with a verbal warning in the first 30 seconds, .......... well draw your own conclusion's. The money men drive the PL, and Liverpool winning was good for them.

So appalled by some of the refereeing decisions yesterday that I was moved to register! VAR was set up to reduce the number of mistakes that would affect results and presumably cut down on bad feelings towards the referees. Seems to have achieved the opposite on both counts. Maybe, referee assessment and appraisal needs to be more transparent and decisions explained more openly post match. Might help diffuse some of the frustration and ill-feeling that results from decisions like this.

That pen didn’t need a second look , and if it got one it was clearly not a penalty, So how did it become one?

Arguably this would have upset the narrative that Friend was going along with. Quite clearly Jota alters trajectory to run into Guaita, it's there for all to see and all who have seen it have remarked upon it - Jota ran purposefully into Guaita. Friend can see it, and yet he still awards the penalty. From an empirical point of view, i.e. his decision making throughout the game, it is not difficult to reach the assumption that the game was corrupted by a corrupt official.
