The HF were spot on with their banner and it simply told the truth about a disgusting regime where Bigotry, Religious bigotry, slavery and state murder are just an every day occurrence .. Edited by westquay (24 Oct 2021 11.16am)

It doesn't really matter what fans think. This is about power and money....all the buzzwords are for all the gullible who believe them. When anything important is threatened, they go out the window.

I'm glad the police are 'investigating', the fact they are doing so has attracted far more publicity than the original banner ever would have done. There will be more publicity when the police decide (no doubt without any fanfare) not to take any action. In the very unlikely event they decide there is a case to answer, all hell will break loose. Whoever lodged a complaint really didn't think it through.

I think Newcastle's takeover has revealed the extent to which ethics no longer matter. The best thing the fanatics can do is to raise a universal banner at every home game for every other club whose owners have known dodgy backgrounds: Chelsea, Manchester City, Wolves, are there any others? There isn't too much between City and Saudi's owners in my view, both very bad. As for Abramovich, his fortune was made off the backs of starving Russians in the Post-Soviet era. Criticise Richard Masters, make the general point about human rights and state that it's gone too far. Perhaps we could have a banner like this at every game. The Mags are right in that I can't remember us making the point before for the other clubs. In one of those comments on their article about the banner a Newcastle fan mentioned the recent blocking vote against interested sponsors. We were more than happy to cash in with the new FaceBank investor but are blocking any future moves. This is wholly hypocritical, the move has just been made to slow Newcastle down. The best thing we can do now is to respond by taking a consistent moral high ground. It seems holier than thou, but it might make other fans do the same and it makes logical sense.
I ain't got nuthin' funny to say. Sorry. |

Yes it’s true that other clubs have s***ty owners as well and it’s true that there should’ve been protests earlier but here we are and better late than never. Maybe the idiot that made the ‘racist’ complaint has kicked off something bigger... And it’s not a penguin, it’s clearly an obese magpie with its belly hanging down over its knees, like any true geordie.

Although it is true what the banner says one issue I have with it is tribalism. If Palace were taken over by a Saudi billionaire the majority of Palace fans would be like any other football fan accept it because it would ensure Palace become a European side within the next 3 to 5 years. Top 10 is a dream and that looks unlikely this season. It is hypocritical to have a banner when if the opposite happened most Palace fans like any other football fan base would welcome it cause most fans care more about success than their owners. Plus if the PL did not accept it would have been hypocritical. You have Man City owned by a state effectively. Chelsea owned by a Russian owner. If you say no to Newcastle there is a double standards. There has also been allegations of corruption against the Chelsea owner, Man City and nearly every rich owner. Most rich owners have allegations of corruption against them many of them are true Newcastle are no different. Money has taken over football a long time ago. Most owners see clubs as businesses. Abramovich didn't take over Chelsea cause of the location of course it was due to profitability. Same with City, PSG and any other football club. Edited by Zaha127 (24 Oct 2021 6.49am) Are you sure? Because you aren’t correct.

I'm genuinely really angry that we are being investigated for that banner. How about our police investigate, for instance, if a football club has been taken over by a murderer? Or any one of a number of serious crimes that haven't been solved.

They are very selective about their virtue. I disagree with your trophy at all cost statement, i am sure many owners have murky pasts, but no other one, to my knowledge, has admitted freely to Murder

To those of you that think that Politics should not be involved in Sport, I agree. But in truth the EPL is all about business / money. Morals and ethics take a back seat. It's ceased to be about Sport if indeed it ever was. The EPL is awash with dirty money - Abramovich, the Chinese etc etc. So we shouldn't be surprised that suddenly the Newcastle takeover was sanctioned after previously being rejected. You have to wonder why a woman ( Staveley ) and a Jew ( Reuben ) would wish to be part of an alliance with PIF. As for the Police investigation into the HOF banner, whatever happened to Freedom of Expression in this country ? Or is the aim to turn the UK into a State where that is forbidden ? Like it is in.....Saudi Arabia Edited by NEILLO (24 Oct 2021 12.00pm)

Typical Croydon Met Police, totally inept. Satirical cartoons are part of British culture since the 17th Century Imagine the problems the Met would have if Charlie Hebdu was published in Croydon. Private Eye used to run cartoons that poked fun at the burka. Burka-clad figures as ten-pins, that sort of thing. Fair game in my opinion. Now, however, I suspect Ian Hislop would happily perpetuate the 'Boris is racist' agenda based on a joke he once made about the inability to identify those wearing the burka, conveniently forgetting his own editorial past.

Well done the HF, fully support them on this. Views I have seen from most of the PL fans is overwhelmingly in support. Someone has complained to the Old Bill, so they have to investigate but I can't see if coming to anything.

Brilliant banner. By a lovely coincidence, I discussed this very issue with someone I met by chance while having a pre-match pint at the South Norwood craft beer bar. We soon found that we shared the same view on the takeover.
