It may not be fair to lump them together but the civil servants - big or small - local or Whitehall - are currently doing bugger all and constantly live by a different set of rules to the private sector.
Not to be admired.

My wife is a civil servant who works at Gatwick and has reported for duty everyday scheduled during the pandemic so I find your observation totally incorrect and quite disrespectful.

Its power is rampant and results in those who should be performance managed or disciplined getting away, sometimes literally, with murder. No single Commissioner can resolve that.

My wife used to work for the Police Complaints Authority, she has some “interesting “ stories. For some of the lack of punishment look no further than the “ funny handshake” brigade

Send Cressida down to Selhurst. Feed her up on cardboard food quench her with half a dozen pints. Teach her some songs and send her out with the Ultras right by the drums. Might not improve her policing but she would have the afternoon of a lifetime and become a true red and blue.

It's true that the awful circumstances of the Sarah Everard case are extremely rare thankfully.

IMHO it is the betrayal of trust that people are so shocked and angry about, but that is no reason to start a panic of behaviour when dealing with the police.

If it is true the murderer was known around work as " The Rapist " and he was not properly dealt with after the McDonalds exposure incident that does raise very serious questions.

I agree that policing is difficult and very different to other jobs.

Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance.

I agree, the media overegg the pudding because that's their payment model.

People can be unfairly labelled at work but once that exposure incident occurred that should have resulted in proper attention being paid....this guy was a Police officer...indecent exposure is sexual and not compatible with having the responsibility and power of a police officer.....makes you think how they just let that pass.

Last time I looked, indecent exposure was illegal*......

I

Apologies for generalising.
I am of course aware that many do work and have done so - as have I - all through the pandemic.
I should maybe have singled out Whitehall, local councils - my two certainly - the DVLA and the like.

I am an ex HM Treasury employee and I can assure you that many of them work very long hours (without overtime). Though some start late, they also stay very late.

What you say may well be true of some other Whitehall departments, but definitely not HMT.
