Very interesting. I don’t know very much at all about nuclear fission but I am interested in clean/new technologies - particularly now, as we come to realise how much we have destroyed the planet. It also strikes me, at this late stage, that we not only need scientists who are open, honest and transparent but also a world that works together, utilising each countries resources for the greater good. That is where I see the biggest issues occurring - human nature is such that new technologies will become something else to be traded with. There will be the haves and the have nots and little will change. Human Beings are a selfish virus, in my opinion. All species are selfish, otherwise survival wouldn't be possible. We are just at the top of the tree.....be thankful it isn't cats as they take selfishness to an artform. I agree on the need for truthful, honest scientists, however that doesn't always work for them within infrastructure systems....an unpopular opinion doesn't get you the job. You appear to be essentially globalist in position. I understand why people support this as globalism is inevitable and in many ways has been happening for centuries, the modern day is just speeded up....However the form it takes can make the difference between moving towards increasing power to the small number of super rich corporations and elites...as has been happening and the alternative of...in my view a more preferred decentralised power structure where power is more localised, which is what we have with nations...then regions, then local. In my view the more centralised then the more corrupt and abusive the systems become. The inherently selfish nature of life makes this inevitable...the old adage of power corrupts being as true as in ancient times...it's inevitable and is in almost everyone to varying degrees. I think this relates to emerging technologies insomuch as the less centralising control there is on beneficial technology to humanity the less hoarded it can be. However, that becomes a double edged sword if we think about large mass destruction weapons, like nuclear and as we have seen actual air born viruses. That technology obviously has to be restricted as possible...Then again, there is no guarantee that a centralised power system would work in everyone's interest there either. So the mutual destruction position probably works just as well. Edited by Stirlingsays (06 Oct 2021 7.57am)

Edited by Stirlingsays (06 Oct 2021 7.55am) You’re right - I probably am a globalist and I agree that the nature of our species does mean we could hit the ‘everyone is equal only……’ mantra. I suspect that my views are more heart over head as I appreciate that this will never happen. I think dreamer is the other term for me! Or naive (I’m sure one of the more unpleasant posters on this thread will point that out to me in their delicate way). It’s a great shame as combining the collective intellectual power and experience of the global species could see us either forge ahead towards absolute greatness OR self-destruct. I suspect that the answer is the latter.

Woke up to hear France might hold back energy for Jersey because France aren’t getting enough fishing licenses so we could be going to war with France. I’m ready to volunteer. I’m available Saturday and Sunday and we should have control of the whole country by then anyway.

Nothing wrong with being a dreamer if you also know reality, which you seem to. I think the current paths seems to be towards a kind of globalized corporatism....which is really just increasing the control of super-rich elites. As for the planet, in my view that's always been two things, technology advancement to counter emissions or depopulation....I know which one I prefer. Those who Worry about which bin they put their waste into seems like to me like using a bucket to throw water overboard on the Titanic: it needs something major. So I think that as poorer countries increase in wealth (which is needed on an humanitarian basis) runaway populations are inevitable. While good technology design can reduce emissions essentially the more human beings the more emissions. So it's counter technology sh1t or bust in my view.......though we probably need some warming to counter the overdue ice age....though that's what I heard and I have no idea how accurate that actually is. Though if someone slapped that prat Macron in the face with a wet mackerel I think I'm likely to approve.

GoJ f***ed up the process for handing out fishing licenses. That was the made worse as French boats had spent years not properly reporting where they are. They've now extended the period to apply for permits and the story had gone away again. One French MP suggested turning of the power cables. However, the idea was put down by people on all sides. There are issues with the cables from time to time. There are two back up plants on the island. If anything, EDF are providing the electricity. It's a private company. It wouldn't be a Government decision to switch it off.

Edited by Stirlingsays (06 Oct 2021 8.49am) Populations have run unchecked - to a certain extent. Between 1914 and 1945 ish, when we enjoyed WW1, WW2, Spanish Flu we haven’t really had any form of mass ‘culling’ of the species to that degree.

I’m still ready to invade France. Will only need the weekend to take over the whole country. I could probably fit in a big booze up on Saturday night at half time as well.
