As I had said previously, and will say again: perhaps a week or more ago I PM'd Willo. He replied that he had left the HOL as he felt he was something of a dullard and doom mongerer who offered nothing people found of value. I PM'd him as I realise he is a gentleman of a certain age and these are uncertain times. I just wanted to know he was OK. Which he does seem to be. Goodness! I must have missed this development. Willo is an old fashioned Tory, who enjoyed the social element of it but was fair and courteous to all, regardless of their politics. Something often lost now. The irony of him doing an exit stage left is that the only people I ever say giving him stick were those who once would've been in broad agreement with him anyway. His approach and politics clearly wasn't quite sexy or indeed insane enough to be 'in with the in crowd' - consequently fewer ties that bind. That said, I don't think there was ever any actual malice to anything said to him, so it's a shame he took this stuff to heart if indeed he did. Some of it was affectionate if anything. Come back Willo! Edited by BlueJay (09 Sep 2021 6.26pm)

Come back Willo! Edited by BlueJay (09 Sep 2021 6.26pm) On this occasion, it was mainly Palace and Transfer Talk where Willo had detractors. Wasn't actually the politics where the argument was - for a change. Willo was a bit of a stato, which I always found helpful - as I tend to rely on memory rather than looking anything up. And I'm basically wrong sometimes.

Willo was a bit of a stato, which I always found helpful - as I tend to rely on memory rather than looking anything up. And I'm basically wrong sometimes. Oh I see. I must admit, I always found him to be a real gent, and his use of the English language made many of his posts a delight to read. Perhaps his consistent sharing of knowledge or stats led to the 'it's all about Willo' comments but I always thought they were a little tongue in cheek really. It could be that he'll return after time away, but if not I hope he realises that behind the ribbing he was appreciated .

Willo was one of the best posters here whether you liked him or not. Thanks for saying that he is doing alright. Would be great to see him back on here as his posts were always a good read and he always managed to remain respectful to others no matter how much they were baiting him. It would be a better place if more posters could act in a similar manner.

Looks like no cold Turkey for Willo then. Gone from numerous posts a day to nothing. Hope the old boy is OK.

I have a hunch the Mrs has done him in! Willo either criticised her 'coq au vin' just once too often or asked what she thought about the up and coming changes to VAR this season just once to often and that was that she just snapped.

We have 2 threads looking for someone, so the logical conclusion is... Willo left the Mrs. and ran off with Marteta! The perfect couple

I suppose it's something of a backhanded compliment to Willo that folk on here continue to take the Mick, even though he no longer appears to contribute.
Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |
