He’s been like this the last 10 years. Highly unlikely he’s going to change his ways now. I don’t see how benching/selling our best player is going to help the team.
I can't see Vieira putting up with his moaning and antics in the longer term. Either Zaha grows up or he leaves (if someone will have him) or he may just find himself on the bench, especially once both Olise and Eze are up and running and fulfilling their potential.

This is crazy how much stick Zaha gets. I used to moan a lot and it’s because most of the time a moan is because of something that should have happened to help us win a game.. Poor passes to him that break the momentum. Opportunities to get him in dangerous situations with a risky pass not completed. Fouls, endless fouls on him all game that don’t produce the punishments deserved. Attacks stopped with fouls on him. Strikers not doing their job after he dies his. Don’t think we’ve had too many players to consistently help keep us in a league season after season for heavens sake! Eze is class but the only one near being able to tear apart an opposition is injured. Mili not scoring either now. Strikers scoring 1 in 3...Between them!! Schlupp was no where near as dangerous as Zaha yesterday. Zaha created two clear easy goal chances that should have been banged in. Gallagher hit post, and a cross that Benteke didn’t get across the front post for. I’m sure Wilf will do his thing again no doubt his talent is one of the best I’ve ever seen in red and blue.

That sums it up perfectly, Eze is our best Player, Wilfs performance yesterday was an embarrassment, and with the new rules of letting the game flow we will see more petulance and more bookings.

Completely agree. We have a lot of fans who seem waiting to stick the knife in. One of our greatest ever players. Without him we wouldn't be a premiership team. Marked out of the game yesterday. People seem to expect he should be working miracles every time he gets the ball. Edited by jeeagles (22 Aug 2021 7.28pm)

I understand why this discussion divides opinion but for me, put simply, he's not our best player anymore and on yesterday's performance (and plenty from last season) he can barely 'do a job'. People get rattled when he gets stick but no one is digging out the fact that he has been our stalwart/icon/hero for god knows how long. Football is a constantly evolving game - Jedinak ended up forgetting how to pass a football (just like Luka has), Bolasie went with our best wishes and has done precisely zero since (albeit unlucky with injuries) and Glenn Murray was prime Gabriel Batistuta for us for about a year. Things move on and for me another season of watching Zaha sulk about the place will be the worst outcome imaginable (both in football terms and business/economic terms). How many busy European wingers are there in the prem that get plucked from France/Spain/Wherever? Literally anyone that wants to run around and smash people and put a shift in should be getting in the team ahead of him. He is not the same guy from the 'When Eagles Dare' era and thinking that he is anywhere near that level is what creates wildly conflicting opinions on the best way forward. My worst nightmare is he wanders off to Newcastle or Southampton on a free in a couple of seasons time - I'll be disillusioned if he's not managed out in a way that makes sense for all parties.

Perhaps there’s a dawning of a realisation for Wilf that this is as good as it gets - a lower to mid Premier League team when he has had aspirations to play Champions League football.

With Wilf on the field there is always the possibility that he will produce a magic touch which gets the goal that wins the game - this is why he is never benched or rarely substituted - however, his knowing that he is pretty much the first name on the team sheet (given his current attitude / performance levels) isn't necessarily the best thing for him. The big questions (for me) are - & if you drop him or substitute him during a game, will it fire him up to come back stronger or will he just drop deeper into sulk & moan land

Given the new directive to refs to let the game flow it occurred to me that this will have a negative Palace more than most. Wilf will not be awarded the niggly fouls which will get his back up and Ayew will also not be awarded those soft fouls which he has been excellent in winning to get us up the pitch.

Given Wilf's moaning and seemingly disinterest, maybe better he is leaving. Beside Kenny Sansom, Zaha is my all-time favorite Palace player and I feel really bad writing this.

Hate to say it but Wilf's departure seems inevitable now. After Saturday's performance, where he was closely marked but not badly treated, he couldn't find a moment of magic against a solid Brentford. As the game wore on he became more and more frustrated and again allowed a few challenges to upset his rhythm. His constant moaning to the ref has now spread to moaning at his team mates and although I rate him very highly he has to be sold. Only snag is nobody seems to want him at our price level. Only Arsenal seem interested but haven't they already spent most of their cash?
