One that sticks out in my memory is Ian Wright against Brighton in 1989 (the match that had 5 penalties). He was out on the left wing and hit it on the bounce into the bottom corner. It's on YouTube for those that don't remember it.

Many years after the event I spoke to Mick Coop(e)?)who was the Coventry right back who was standing on the line next the left hand post on that day. He said he had never seen a free kick struck so sweetly. One moment Allen was running up and the next he heard the ball whoosh past his ear. I think he was the first to re-act and to clear the ball. I told him he should have put his hand up and told the ref. He just smiled. Originally posted by croydon proud
Hopkins must be up there for the sheer importance and timing, great goal to. Have to say all at the semi final v Liverpool, that was a magical day out, Andy Grays? Townsends at city must the actual best goal ever scored technically, he was robbed for the goal of season by Lineker etc. The goal that never was, Clive Allen-at Coventry, ball went in from a 30 yard free kick, in to back of net, came out I think, and game played on? He can also take some credit for the best spontaneous pitch invasion in the Fa cup quarter final at loftus road , celebrating qpr goal in front of 5000 palace fans after running the length of the pitch .That Cannon night in 79 in front of 52, 000 at selhurst was special to be fair!

Mark Bright’s winner 4-3 against Millwall 1989. A great game and lovely first time strike (let’s the ball run across him and smashes it top corner after a pass from Wrighty) Was standing behind the little wall in holmesdale with my cousin who was staunch Millwall as a pair of 10 year olds the bragging rights were amazing after they had come back from 3-1 down and they loads of their yobs in the home end as usual going bonkers made it so sweet as they folded ( also beat a very good Millwall side on the day tbf with Sherringham, Carter and Cascarino) a lovely little sub plot was Gray and Hurlock kicking lumps out of each other in midfield! Magic day…..

As for my favourite, has to be John Salako at Notts Forest, FA Cup 1991. I went to this game too and why I loved it so much was because I had travelled there week before only for game to be called off as I reached Nottingham, and that was the second postponement! When we finally played it made the long journeys worth every minute! Found a clip: oh happy days... @Palace 1979 I remember that too a great goal by Salako from the half way line seemed to take forever to land in! I went up the week before too the fog came down on the Trent an hour before the KO and game off I had bunked school for the day so every cloud. A lovely volley by Wrighty for our first goal too. Again beat a very good Forest side with Keane and Pearce in his prime! Got to disagree, great goal but like yourself went to the cancelled match, the 2-2 and the third replay which we got hammered in, in hindsight wish he hadn't scored. Best goal was Eric Young against them in the league a couple of weeks after just because I was total sick of Nottingham by that point, even signing Psycho is a German was boring by that point!

Edited by dreamwaverider (04 Aug 2021 8.02am) My favourite was his other goal in that final after coming off the bench. He sat a couple of MU defenders on their backsides before slotting it: classic FA Cup goal in the days when the FA Cup was still the most exciting thing around.

For me it's Dougie at Stockport every time. If he hadn't have scored we would have been downto the third tier and it would have been a long way back. The sheer audaciousness of Hopkin's handball, up to Clinton before Dougie's clinical finish followed by me diving over the hoardings and the stewards to get on the pitch. Amaazing day.
