Awful wasn't it. I couldn't watch in the end. I had thought about 250 - and that would have been poor. But this is becoming regular now. Personally think Root just doesn't look right as Captain. He talks the talk, but doesn't exude confidence and calmness the way Morgan does. I'm also not at all convinced by the selection but that's another long post.

Ben Stokes looks more like Doris Stokes for his clairvoyance in missing this one.

How much of the blame should be put at the door of the ECB who have marginalised county cricket in favour of 20/20 and The Hundred.

If I were ECB I would be desperate to postpone The Ashes tour until next year to avoid the embarrassment of the drubbing that we'll get

Agree. The Hundred is impacting the quality of our Test team. Players have forgotten how to skilfully grind out a Test innings as they're so used to trying to smack it out of the park and their technique has suffered.

Furthermore, it's contributed to the burn out of our best player.

We're gonna get pumped in Australia. Nightmare.

In all seriousness, I'd say it's a thinly veiled dig at how much cricket he's being asked to play, whilst still injured. There are rumblings in the side, but nothing coming out at present.

Seeing how Australia won't come over for the Rugby League, would hardly be a surprise if they called off the Ashes. England need a serious rethink, including dropping Anderson and Broad and making them fight for their places for a while. Goes without saying, an opening partnership is most desperately required. Basically, I reckon the England test team lacks the intelligence for the game. Who's the brains Trust? Not anyone I would think is that clever. I can't stand Root's body language, but undoubtedly a good batsman.

I totally agree.
The Test team awash with 'One day' batters, not suited to test match cricket.
Low scores and collapses time after time.

The Hundred has literally just started, so cannot be a large factor in the Test team's demise. I would also suggest the Indians play nearly all one day cricket but it doesn't seem to have affected them the same. It's nowhere near as simple as one day cricket ruining test cricket - although it is a factor.
The team is all wrong, too many favourites and Root is not at all ruthless, if he's even consulted. The selectors need to be questioned as even the most casual observer can see problems.
Also, England playing too much. Too many different sides, with many similar personnel. Some of the players might have to look at their kit to remember exactly what format they're playing.
Finally, a wicket, rush of blood rather than good bowling.

Time after time there have been collapses and low scores.
Players have been given opportunities but have failed with some regularity.
There are players out of their depth at Test level due to their technique in the main and are more suited to giving the ball and darned good thwack over the ropes and listening to the music that follows.

The hundred is a big success.

I will miss my hundred fix when it ends.

Test batting failure is not caused by the Hundred.

They do not look prepared coming into this match, and high quality bowling from Bumrah and co.

I knew he would get Burns first ball, and he did!

Walking across his stumps again.

Dohhhhh....

Maybe this wicket isn’t the easiest to bat on after all.
