Can someone outline some of the benefits of Brexit 5 years later? Sure. Less Eastern European’s taking jobs for locals Less Eastern European’s taking school places Less Eastern European’s taking up hospital places Less Eastern European’s under cutting local tradesman Less Eastern European’s pushing up rents making unaffordable housing for locals Just shout if you want any more

Ok, the vote was honoured... any more? Even I’d acknowledge the increased agility was beneficial in the vaccine rollout, but struggling beyond that. Perhaps in forty years you'll get a vote. That's what happened the last time....the anti EU camp was just ignored for decades.

The vaccine rollout has shown the benefits of not being tied to a behemoth political Union and being able to act on your own and this will certainly have more benefits going forward. Edited by DanH (01 Jul 2021 10.33pm) This is overstated You’ve been caught out by government spin Germany is administering 1.3m vaccinations per day and is just about to overtake the UK in total vaccinations at 75m. By the way we are on Germany’s red list for travel.

This has gone way off from Sunderland. As far as I can find out, UK govt contribution to Nissan 100 million

Remain or leave all seems a little academic now as the result is clearly not something that will be revisited for a good few years. My favourite comedy characters of the piece though are those 'expats' living in Spain who voted to leave the EU and were positively stunned when some of them then had to return home.

They had no-one to blame but themselves. The Spanish made it abundantly clear what steps you had to take and a timescale if you wanted to stay and it wasn't difficult, you just had to apply for non-fiscal residency and all you had to prove for this was self sufficiency. The impact on Brits is more on the Swallows who previously travelled south for 4 or 5 months in the winter. They had the option of staying for 6 months under the old system but this is now restricted to 90 days out of a 180 day period. Even then though there is the option of an extended stay visa however you have to apply to the local Police and sign into the country and out again. It becomes overly complex and the local Police aren't keen on having their time taken up with this admin. To be fair places like Tenerife recognise the importance to their economy of the Brits and are currently looking at a way to appease the Swallows within their part of the Schengen territories with a paid visa. Not sure as yet whether it will be forthcoming or how much it will be.

I think when you compare their residency process to ours e.g. free and quick we have nothing to be ashamed of. As to the ex Pats to be honest I don't care surely part of moving to a foreign country is to get away from the UK they seem to want it both ways, it's the risk you take when you move abroad.
