Right you are. More than right. In the face of madness, from all sides really, I like to maintain a sense of fairness. However, fairness doesn't equal fantasy. If a woman trains her whole life to achieve her dream, I'm not eager to give a high five to someone who hops onto the girl bus 2/3 down the road. Sure, I appreciate that nature has its quirks, and I would never be an asshole about someones person challenges or decisions if that's what they need to do. There are certain biological realities though, and I'm also never going to be cheering on this person, much in the same way that I wouldn't be doing so for a (former) man giving a beating to a woman in a boxing ring. If anything she damaged her cause. I would expect even most trans people cringe at the attention someone forcing their way into these competitions causes. It's not ability; it's self indulgence.

When a trans athlete disables or kills a born female in a combat sport the repercussions will be bad. This could actually happen going forwards.

I was reading about this yesterday. As a man, she was a good but not a world class or even national class weightlifter, now she could win a medal at the Olympics.

Not that I have much interest in the sport but isn't fair on female weightlifters both from NZ who aren't being picked and other countries who could lose out on a medal and based on her previous lifts, she is expected at least to medal.

I don't blame the athlete or even the NZ Olympic selectors, it's the IOC rules that are to blame.

It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses.

What I found disappointing was that the NZ PM (the great feminist) has said it was fair that this person competed. So a female PM takes against her own sex. There is nothing fair in this for those female weightlifters who have been working towards this for years.

What next Usain Bolt comes out of retirement doesn't train and wins the women's 100m at a canter?

Have a look at Ross Tuckers twitter,@scienceofsport , especially his destruction of "journalist"/ idiot Tom Harwood yesterday.
Also another, unrelated, Tom having a go at him and Alison Symonds.

At some point these kinds of decisions will be become so bonkers and the consequences so damaging that there will be no hiding it any longer.

The sooner we rid ourselves of the loons who make these decisions, the better for all.

Yep, but we have been pointing out the holes and flaws in their nonsense for decades.....it makes no difference as they aren't listening.

At the end of the day all that matters is money and who is funding what....if journalists are extolling the politics of their funders then how true something is makes no difference to their pay packet unless you can sue them.

Yes, and we have to make it unprofitable to make such loony decisions. Money talks louder than sense.

I haven't but I'm sure he's right as I've seen these rebuttals many a time.

I just know they don't care.

If you can have a look, it's well worth the time.
Some of the figures quoted will blow your mind about the strength difference of men who have been through puberty, then become trans women.
They can never be allowed to box real women.

It's inevitable really. You'd think the whole point of weight divisions and the like it to avoid complete mismatches, and yet some are all for those with the physique of a man (no matter what hormonal interventions have taken place after) battering a woman in the head. Many in combat sports are vocal about this stuff, and I do think that it will eventually lead to it being stamped out in combat sports at least.
