I am in WhatsApp contact with fellow jurors (i.e. mates on the same mission). It is the most boozy night of the year. You cannot watch this pish sober. And you then go from one comically awful song to the next making the sort of inappropriate comments you would not otherwise make with absolute impunity. It's brilliant! It can get a bit dull by the voting; but I have usually passed out on the sofa by then.

Not too many years ago whilst on holiday, I crossed paths with a gentleman who was an avid devotee of 'Eurovision' and claimed that he had attended many shows 'Live' and never fails to watch the programme. I informed him in no uncertain terms what I thought of it and he recoiled as if he had found a 3 week old kipper at the back of his fridge, his face dropping as if it had been sucked down a plughole. He stormed off in a huff, muttering words under his breath which I assume were not complimentary about me.I suspect he yearned to clang me over the head with a copper bedpan.
