The left is the only answer, and we don't have it. Attlee's great reforming government how we could do with that now. Keynes economic policies stimulating the economy by putting money into pockets stimulating demand green building and energy programs with public employment and ownership. The tories bust cronyism the 'chumocracy' the few not the many, why do people vote for it? It is rhubarb the covid shows just how useless it is. In Europe next generation will have a future if the 750 billion re-generation is successful. But all they will get here from Rishi is a free one-off burger and chips and years of unemployment, while the tories syphon off the city corruption into the hands of the idle rich.

'Attlee's great reforming government'.....Enabled by the Marshall plan....in other words American money. 'Keynes economic policies'.....which long term never actually worked. Indeed, the debt the world is in has been created by Keynesian economics and that's what is going to lead to real suffering....not Indian millionaire chancellors. . Edited by Stirlingsays (28 Jan 2021 5.53pm) Attlee was a man of principle sadly lacking amongst today's politicians of all parties. Reading his biography back in the 1950's he complained about the current crop of new MPs as professional politicians only interested in themselves. well he got that one right. His government did a lot of good around health and social services but blew it by nationalising the "commanding heights of the economy" as Keyne's put it.

Being men of means there were less careerists I suppose. Attlee's National health service was certainly a better designed model than what it is today....an international health service propped up by cheaper gained foreign nurses and Doctors.

Politics was always primarily about careerism and that special sauce that meant you were willing to put yourself up for the slings and arrows. Lets be honest, the overwhelming majority of us not. I guess the bigger issue is that if somebody has the desire to be an MP it usually means they are probably far more likely to lean towards the narcissistic and bordering on the verge of several personality disorders. I believe that is more prevalent on the Left but I also am more than willing to concede that this POV is massively coloured by my own political leanings. With Boris Johnson no doubt one of the worst examples of this, immediately proving a huge and glaring exception to that rule. For me, the greatest recent study of the modern western politician was the Netflix remake of 'House of Cards', series 1-3 (the rest are not worthy of consideration). And yes I know, we are not meant to watch it anymore but seriously, it is an incredible work of fiction. Genius writing and acting. I confess that politicians both horrify and fascinate me because we place so much power into these peoples hands because somebody has to do the job but an inclination to do such a task must always be a massive warning of wariness about such people. Personally, I tend to think that a benevolent dictatorship is by far the best system of Governance but we are stuck with what we have for the time being.

I take it that you don’t like the government, but sometimes I don’t think you even know why you do when you post sh@te like that.

He’s your chancellor as much as mine, and for the record, I’m no Tory. Second point, what the f@ck does ‘people like you’ mean? You are a good poster, Croydon Proud, and I didn’t mean my post to sound aggressive as it may have done, but it just gets boring, one side constantly attacking the other. I’m sure you can think of many things the government have been w@nk at but when you just start posting stuff about how wealthy the chancellor is it just comes across aspathetic. For the record, most of his wealth comes from marrying the daughter of a billionaire. Good luck to him I say! Edited by Tom-the-eagle (28 Jan 2021 9.41pm)
