Turned Special into pish

First, they reduced its ABV back in the 1990s

Then they moved the brewing out of the Ram brewery and into Charles Wells' Eagle brewery in Bedford

Then Wells sold up to Marstons

So, bit by bit, the extremely special Special became a pale reflection of its former self, barely worth a second sip.

I talked with Duncan Sambrook to try to encourage him to brew a 'heritage' Special now they have moved into the Ram brewery, fingers crossed.

How would you feel if the 1/1000 was your son? Would you say, well done kid you took one for the people of planet earth?

What gives you this idea? Viruses adapt rather than "mutate". Make a vaccine, it adapts. Deny it access, it adapts. Evolution 101. The word 'mutate'/'mutant' is pure scare factor.

Systematically dragged down by the lawmakers

For most viruses, replication involves making many errors. This means that viruses like the flu mutate rapidly. This can mean that many treatments and vaccines become ineffective, and is one of the reasons why we need a new flu jab every year.

However, coronaviruses proofread their replicated genome and so they accumulate mutations at a slower rate. Mutations do occur, though, and could have many different effects on the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus and our ability to control the pandemic.

The majority of mutations will have no impact on the virus or on the disease. Occasionally a mutation will enable greater growth, transmissibility or escape from the immune system, in which case the mutated virus may spread widely throughout the population.

The only adaptation undertaken by viruses to my knowledge is that they can switch from the lytic phase to the lysogenic phase and back again.
