But can they have their own quotes?

Good boy, you're learning quickly! Keep at it and we won't have to listen to your trite left wing dogma for too much longer. Which will be wonderful. No-one needs to go hungry, due to the welfare system. It is a parent's prime responsibility to keep their kids safe and fed. All the rest comes after that. Dont you ever put the responsibility on to the parents. They need fags , beer, nails and good hair. Sacrificing any of those will be wrong I'm sure. It's all borises fault dont you know!

No-one needs to go hungry, due to the welfare system. It is a parent's prime responsibility to keep their kids safe and fed. All the rest comes after that. Ok, let's take an example then. Mother, single parent, one 12 year old. No family support, she works as much as she can to support her kid and sacrifices all personal luxuries. She get 450 a month from universal credit, no extra for housing benefit or child support. She works minimum wage, but hours have been cut sown during pandemic so she makes about 700 a month. But she pays 600 a month rent, plus bills is 750. She's paying back a loan which she took out a couple months ago when UC was delayed and that's another 100 out. 100 for travel for the month, and she gives her kid a tenner a week. If she buys no clothes, presents, drinks, meals out or any extras, that leaves £60 a month to feed both of them, just under £15 for the weekly shop. When it gets to the holiday, she wants to stay and look after her kid, but has to go to work to pay bills, so she can't guarantee that her kid is having lunch. 2 questions for you. 1 what would you do in her position. 2 Do you think the state should support this situation by offering meals to kids through the holidays?

Edited by serial thriller (22 Oct 2020 7.04pm) I think meals are a worthy cause, particularly for kids. It's not money that can be wasted, or a system easy to abuse. It's meals for kids. If their parents are like you point out, or if they're scagheads or dossiers, still the kids deserve meals. Kids shouldn't suffer from hunger due to poverty in a rich country. I speak having come from a poor family myself and I know what it's like. School meals were my dinners.

The cynicism is all a bit theoretical isn't it, this idea that the kids shouldn't need these meals. Well, they either do or they don't regardless of pontificating on the matter. With job losses piling up there are no doubt plenty of good parents struggling to put a square meal on the table. We shouldn't be more up in arms about feeding kids than the doling out of 50% off for 100 million pub meals.

Why would a loan for 2 months be a 100 a month?

Such a refreshing change. A compassionate celebrity who has actually looked into the details of a REAL issue, with which he has some personal connection.

I agree that there would be plenty of undeserving parents, or even one or no parents or whatever. Well said. It's not helpful to be cynical about Rashford's campaign and the benefits of extending a hand to kids in need. What kind of message does this send out to them? My family doesn't care and my country doesn't either? And anyway, there are many good parents struggling right now too, most of them rarely the first to ask for help.
