I'd only loan players if it were possible to buy them at the end. Otherwise, you're just making other clubs a favour. Investing in your own striker let's say 10 million and then selling him for 30-40 million is better than loaning one from Chelsea and him not being yours, next year.having to replace him again. Nice mention of Tosun, haven't seen one yet. I doubt many people would pay 12 million for a player who hasn't trained or played in so long and might never go back to great fitness. As I said, I think loaning is a necessary evil. There’s no way we could afford Bats and RLC so I think another year of loaning is the best we’ll get. Regarding your maths, if it was possible to routinely buy a striker for £10m and sell for £30-40m, of course that would be the way to go. Doesn’t happen very often though. £10m doesn’t get you much In striker terms nowadays.

Santi Mina, Josh Maja, Cedric Itten, Demirovic, Raguz, Antonio Colak, Lucas Joao, Teuchert all fall into the max 10 million buy and possible 30-40 million resale.

If I had the 30 million I'd spend it on Musa Barrow

Putting Fraser and Ibe on the same level is baffling to me.

I can't see Fraser coming to us and I have a gut feeling there is a player in Ibe who has lost his way. Tough act to follow being the replacement to Sterling at Liverpool but people saw his potential. Then a big money move to the Cherries which just did not work out at all and for whatever reasons, if that be him or the club was just not the right fit for him I don't know but I doubt he would need the wages etc Fraser would need so I see him as an acceptable risk as a squad player. Of course he could also be like the long line of players in the Ravel Morrison mold but sometimes it's worth a punt if the cost is not too high.

I've seen Jordon Ibe since junior level and have not been impressed even at that level. He was never at the level of Walcott, Ox, Aaron Lennon, Shawn Wright Phillips or even Sinclair. He just had the fortune of playing in Liverpool. Otherwise there never would have been a big money transfer.

Whilst I definitely wouldn’t want him at Palace, he was in the first team at Wycombe aged 15 and by all accounts an exceptional youngster, hence the move to Liverpool. I don’t think you can call that fortune, but yeah clearly never kicked on. I’ve actually seen him at Goals Elmers End a few weeks on the bounce recently playing 5aside with mates.

There are plenty cheap wingers better than Ibe though: Richter, Boetius, Inigo Vicente, Hlozek, Skov Olsen, Bakaev, Kuwas, Embarba, Remi Oudin, Murg, ELIASSON from the Championship FREE, Rigoni, Heriberto Tavares, Carlos Embalo, David Atanga, Anders Dreyer, JENS PETER HAUGE- TERRIFIC CHEAP YOUNGSTER, Cody Gakpo, Kevin Bua FREE, Cristian Tello, Cavaleiro, Orsic, Idrissi, Elyounoussi, Vukanovic, Vukadinovic, Lovric, Atzili, Naim Sliti, Darwin Machis, Kouassi, Fabio Martins, Diogo Goncalves, Verbic, Florian Kainz, Olayinka, Onyekuru, Randjelovic, Lamprou, Mihaila, Despodov. All within 2 million-10 million price. All better than Ibe. There are 40 wingers above, without mentioning big names who remain free like Fraser or Callejon. Surely an intelligent club manager can choose 3-4 immediate players out of these and 3-4 youngsters to loan out 1 year and then use. Edited by mattteo (30 Jul 2020 4.15pm)
