To allow entry to thousands of single young men is sexist. Seen the photos of the refugee boats ? Not seen any young women in the photos.

It is not uncommon for the boats to have a woman (often pregnant) on board and also a couple of children

The concept of women and children first seems to have sunk with the Titanic! Travelling from places that are too dangerous but leave wives and children behind

Its funny how today is the 80th anniversary of the founding of 'Le Resistance'(im only saying that once), & Macron(French PM, not the shirt maker) & other bods are all in London meeting our PM & laying wreaths at memorials like the Cenotaph & Churchills statue. Wonder if border controls/migrants crossing will be talked about?
This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise. |

It's nice that migrants still want to come here rather than to any other European country despite how racist we are and how poorly we've treated non-white people for centuries.

Like I said I see the whole situation as regrettable. Where I am in the world right now frankly has nothing to do with, but if you want to use that as a stick, well... Regardless how they present we still need to process their cases with dignity. I accept that. These people are human and to dehumanise them and blame the French for there being isn’t helping. Australia detain indefinitely and it is deplorable, and abhorrent. I follow the movement against that here because it’s important, it says everything about a nation how it treats those that are suffering. I didn’t say you were racist. This thread is full of hate though. There isn’t a really a constructive message amongst the comments. So if there is an answer to this problem the combined discussions of Palace fans is worth little. We need to focus our efforts on destroying the pipelines and stop the traffickers, we need these people to help us achieve that, and we need to start supporting a world that reduces the displacement of people, through wars and economics. There is case that by EU states turning a blind eye to these people transiting through the Schengen area compounds issues. Collectively we should take some responsibility for the burden that this issue creates, by that is a side issue here, because we want to focus on Pierre dumping ‘rabid foreigners’ on our shores. Maybe we should start by talking to Hungary they mirror many of the views expressed here. See how we get on eh? Maybe we should be like Hungary? Eh Spiderman? Originally posted by Spiderman
I don’t even why I am bothering to reply to someone who has decided to move to the other side of the world but I will just reiterate that, after 40 years working in Immigration, the vast majority are not refugees they are economic migrants. Most arrive with no documents so we do not know who they are. Trying to protect the future of my kids makes me small minded does it? Fine why did you leave? You coming back anytime soon? How do Australia deal with arriving refugees? A lot tougher than we do, obviously that didn’t stop you going! Out protesting are you?

Maybe we should start by talking to Hungary they mirror many of the views expressed here. See how we get on eh? Maybe we should be like Hungary? Eh Spiderman? The problem we face is that our idea of dealing with people with dignity is to throw money at it, giving them a home, cash and access to our welfare/health system which all has to be paid for. If there was no financial side to this and we were the size of Australia we could all be philanthropists In our understanding however the cost is prohibitive and quite simply we do not have room. Ultimately we are considered the soft touch of Europe and that is why getting here is a priority for migrants. When people bang on about good causes they forget that the only money that governments have is what they collect off their tax payers and there comes a point where the people get sick to death of them giving it away rather than bettering the futures of the people that are paying towards it. Yes, there are specific circumstances that deserve our attention but we have to have a tighter policy on immigration. This is one of the main reasons why the majority voted for Brexit so that we could tighten our borders. I find it ironic that you are beating the drum for a better European approach but you live and presumably pay taxes in a country that has a far harsher approach to immigration.

I agree with a lot you say but believe me, having dealt with and interviewed hundreds of “refugees” they are afforded the utmost dignity. Very few are detained despite us not knowing who they are. Unfortunately the French, in particular, are to blame as they do not process those waiting to cross the Channel. If they did they would be their responsibility, as it is once in U.K. they cannot be removed. Edited by Spiderman (21 Jun 2020 12.49pm)

I do not know but will have an educated guess that the perpetrator in the horrendous stabbing in Reading was someone who we had given refuge too.
