Classic Hol... Snippets from a couple of the latest posts on this thread: "I am clueless about the FFP rules and how that limits us ... and I think the failure to bring in a quality striker is criminal." "I’m no expert, but Ferguson failed a medical over a knee. He’s played 21 games this season. What’s the issue with signing an injured player? Rest him for a few weeks and he’ll be fit soon." Posters griping at the activities about which they admit they are inexpert rather than offering the benefit of the doubt to those who've taken massive decisions with the benefit of their expertise. 'I'm so angry I can't think no more.' It is extremely frustrating - and boring - when we don't bring in exciting talent but we're doing really rather well with the current strategy, all things considered. I fear a bit for the future - with an ageing squad and an ageinger (that's right!) manager - whose success may well be difficult to replicate - going apparently worryingly unsupported and who may be difficult to replace - but until it actually does all start to go belly-up then there really is an awful lot of doubt from which those in charge are entitled to benefit. And if we aren't cutting slack then we at least ought to make sure we know what we're talking about when criticising those who evidently do.

For me, there’s a lot of confusion. It appeared we had made official contact to sign Bowen and he was keen to join but were gazumped by West Ham. Why on earth did we not then up our bid? I honestly believe there is money there to spend which is why be made a bid of £20 million+ for that Russian striker in the summer. As for the Ferguson situation, whilst this is frustrating, I believe he is out of contract in the summer so Im hoping an agreement has been made with his representatives for him to join in the summer once his knee has been attended to. They will be keen to get it seen to as his injury is in the public’s knowledge now therefore until he’s had the required surgery, other clubs will likely be put off. This means that we will get him on a free transfer at least. I anticipate money being spent in the summer after what would have been a year to 18 months of spending very little. As for now, we will stay up which is always the first goal. We have players returning to the first team (Van Aanholt, Townsend and Milivojevic) who can see us through to achieve this. We can then take stock of the situation. I believe we will sign Ferguson in the summer and will make moves for other young players such as Eze from QPR and Watkins from Brentford for example.

Difficult to argue with that. I wasn't happy with first draft, so went away and did a complete rewrite.

Short term the lack of signings in this window won’t make a difference. We will stay up. Europe was a dream but not realistic. However, we have missed the opportunity to bed in some new young players once we are safe and will now need a major overhaul in the summer.

Letting Wickham go, if true, is absolute madness. Best striker we've got, just coming into fitness...and we loan him out. Total utter madness.
