I do though treasure the BBC for it's objectivity in news and current affairs along with it's constant stream of informative science based output. I am more than happy to pay my licence fee to keep the BBC free of commercial influences but you can choose not to if it makes you that unhappy. I don't though subscribe to Sky because I want nothing to do with any enterprise that Murdoch has ever had an influence over. You dont mind having him and his employees tax money though.

For me the over-riding concern for the UK in the next 10 years should be full energy independence. Fracking, nuclear power, wind or wave, hydrogen cells, any and everything other than oil really. As you might expect, I have nothing other than utter contempt for the usual Climate Emergency types but the reality is that it is in our national interest to seek out more and more ways of generating our own power needs. Their abhorrence of oil is justified as are the voices on the left who decry our turning a blind eye to the excesses of the Arab ruling classes because they buy our shiny toys. By 2029 I would love to see the influence of Petro-dollars have waned to almost insignificance. Because those have been the cancer in our society. Would happily pay extra tax if ring-fenced specifically for research and development in this field and if successful, the real game changer on a variety of levels. Once the UK is able to light and warm all its homes and business without recourse to any foreign input, then a whole host of other issues become solvable in record time. Whether it will happen or not though...a good question. I suspect the tumourous impact of the petro-dollar has already effectively bought most of our institutions but we will see. Have to be optimistic on that score. Energy is the key for me. Been saying this for a while in 1979 Saudi extremists very nearly overthrow the government when they attacked Mecca if they had succeeded they would have turned the oil off. We should not be depending on our energy from unstable and despotic regimes. The West is still very dependent on oil and gas and if I was a terrorist I would be looking at cutting those supplies as it would cause more damage then 9/11. If I were the climate changes I would be pointing this out as another reason to go green,

Sky has an endless supply of sport, documentaries, arts programmes and old films.

You dont mind having him and his employees tax money though. Oh I would more than happily do without any money from Murdoch's operations in the UK. If they were all banned as not being in the public interest then what would we miss? Someone else would pick up the sport. Maybe the BBC again, free for us all. The only one's to really suffer would be the over paid players. Removing his influence from the written media would be a good thing, in my opinion. His view of the world is not mine and his influence over governments far too strong. I fail to see what my pension and health care arrangements have to do with this. Or you.

The players being overplayed is supply and demand. They are indeed over played but I am sure you mean overpaid, as I said. It is of course due to supply and demand but the plain fact is that it has become ridiculous and some intervention which diverted money to the development of the game both here and abroad beneficial. Billions is invested because of these overplayed players. In what? Things which generate future income for the players? Which in turn produces tax income for the government. Not when it goes abroad, as much of it does. You dont have to watch or read his material and his tax money helps towards your pension and nhs. I don't either watch or read anything from Murdoch sources. As I said I would much prefer that there was no contribution at all to UK funds from him. He should have been kicked out years ago when we had the opportunity to do so.

Edited by Stirlingsays (31 Dec 2019 12.16pm) Is that right about the stats? Women from minorities certainly stick to their own but those from the white majority?

Bowie and Iman are hardly going to be unexceptional. Supermodel and music superstar. Try the guy who works down Asda for the unexceptional.

There is something extremely sad in this action.....yet Apple promote it as a positive. Says something about the people who thought up the ad. [Tweet Link]
