In Fairness to Warren Mitchell and Johnny Speight they never made any secret that Alf garnet was mean to be a figure to be ridiculed and exposed for his working class hypocrisy.

If I may do a Willo and introduce an irrelevancy - my daughter used to be an actress and many years ago appeared in a West End Show with Warren Mitchell's daughter and she seemed to be a very nice girl and a million miles away from her father's best known character

You may do a Willo and you just have. 7 on 10 for irrelevancy

I'm sure she was lovely.

But I'm going to defend the Alf Garnet's of the world. It was those types that won WW2. He reminded me a little of my grandfather was fought in Italy and in other places.

I'd rather have cantankerous but reliable people like that.

This country would be in a far better state.

He showed his true colours when he was asked to be a guest Film Reviewer standing in on 5live for the regular guys. I think even the BBC was surprised at how pathetic he was. They thought they were getting the self opinionated Pub Landlord who would make juicy comments about certain actors and films.

Instead they got a pussy who wouldn't / couldn't criticise any of the films he saw. He made Corbyn seem decisive, after that pathetic showing he wasn't asked back.

He would have been better doing the show as Pub Landlord rather than himself.

Why do people think that actors are like the characters they portray in films and telly. It just shows how good they are at there craft, as are totally different in real life. I have seen both Mitchell and Murray interviewed as themselves, miles away from their characters.

Exactly, why wouyld anyone suppose an actor's daughter would be in any way similar to a character played by her father, some need to get a grip on reality

Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance.
