I'm all for saving the planet but she targets the wrong countries

Because that's where the UN conference is taking place. And I guess partly because Trump is a vocal opponent of climate change.

That said - she winds me up and undoubtedly is being feted by politicians from around the world to jump on a bandwagon - but the fact that she (or her backers if you prefer) have created a movement cannot be denied and if it helps in the short or long term, then all well and good.

Sure, but you’re talking about a generation of people - you’re always going to have some within it who don’t care.

I don’t have the numbers, but I’d be very confident that recycling per person or household is up massively since ‘back in the days’ - but your perception is that a generation who recycled less “recycled and reused everything”, whereas those who recycle more don’t - that’s kind of what I’m getting at.

Because they threaten to fine us if we don't. With the irony being that we have more holes in the ground than we know what to do with and that using them as landfill actually offers a whole raft of benefits.

Still lets all worship at the feet of a 16 year old girl because that is not creepy in the slightest. And lets listen more to young people. They are wise beyond their years.

I think its fairly obvious this particular generation have a far higher usage of electrical powered items than those in the past. Must be a lot of wind turbines in back gardens that cant be seen.
Also look how many get lifts to and from school and indeed everywhere.

Well yes, because the technology didn’t exist in the past - I don’t think that’s really a stick to beat them with.

Any data on lifts to and from school?

There are positions that exist between yours and worshipping the feet of Greta - you have a real taste for hyperbole

Just go out during rush hour during the school holidays and see how light the traffic is. Anyone can see that. No figures needed its so obvious.
Why not have a go at them about their energy consumption.? Previous generations are getting blamed for things we were unaware of, yet their usage is higher than ours was.

We have no idea how it compares with previous generations is the point; reduced traffic during school holidays is a long way from being a new thing.

If the energy consumption is excessive, by all means have a go, but criticising them because they live in a more technologically advanced world is silly.

Also, I think most on here are conflating two huge groups as one and the same; the real eco-warrior teenage types who follow Greta are not the kids you see driving to school in Croydon - the whole point in their movement is to make others care as much as them, and that’s within their own age group as well as outside of it.

Being mobile in my job I would say during school holidays the traffic is at least 15% lighter.
A journey from kent to london reduces by at least 20 minutes.

All thus climate change nonsense.

It was call climate warming and we got told to have water meters , then it's changed to climate change as we have just as much rain.

As a kid I got told the Amazon was having 10 football pitches a minute cut down, guess what!!! My 11 year old son came home saying excactly the same thing 30 years later!!

Even the river Thames froze over in Victorian days!!

All nonsense for an alternative agenda !!
Charging for emission zones
Upgrade your car to be "cleaner"

People are getting rich ofn the back of all this!

This thread shows exactly what the issues are. It's a lot easier to call it a conspiracy, or to pretend that the climate isn't changing, or that an ice-age is coming, or that there is no point because of China and India, instead of facing up to the realities of what our actions are doing to the planet.

So many of you claim to hate liberal snowflakes and yet you are literally being triggered by a 16 year old who is telling you the truth. Over 95% of scientists agree with the conclusion that humans are causing the climate to change. If you want to believe the head in the sand posters on the Holmesdale or the 5% of scientists who are being bankrolled by fossil fuel lobbyists then go ahead. Perhaps when the problems are at your door instead of affecting people in other countries you might stop being so selfish.

Simple fact is there are more cars on the road today than ever before and more kids get lifts all over the place than ever before. Easy to see with your own eyes so i wont bother arguing any more on that.
This generation are blaming past generations for climate change due to fossil fuel usage. We didnt have anything else or know any different so that is the same as the defence you have put forward for them living in a tech driven age.
