Lets assume we need 40 pts(yes I know its too early).
That means we need 13 wins against the lets say weaker teams.
So Everton home draw I would say = +1
Sheff U away loss " " " " " = -0
Man Utd away win " " " " " +3
So if we beat Sheff U at home then I think that we are 4pts ahead.
We are going to have seasons whereby luck, injuries or suspensions go against us, but as long as we hold our nerve during those seasons then we can hope for a season where things go our way.
Look at Bolton or Stoke, both got rid of managers that kept them up each season because they wanted to go to another level, well they found another level.

And Charlton

Aren't you going to come onto say how it's only the cup, doesn't matter, it was iur reserves. We made 10 chsnges. we beat Man utd. It will be different against villa.....

Sorry, but f that team we put out can't beat Colchester United, we are in serious trouble.

3 games into the season and we are 10th. There are 10 teams that have worse starts to the season then us. Confused how that is "serious trouble"?

Poor pre-season results.
No striker or right back replacement.
No goals in 3 of our 4 games.
Abject performance in 2 of our 4 games.
No ambition to attack at home against a L2 side.
Best player wants to leave.
£150k+ per week in wages on 2 strikers who do not move.
Poor scouting capability.
No new stand.

On the positive side - very lucky win against Man U.

We lost in a cup we will never likely win. Same can be said for any competition we are in.

I'm not overly surprised by it. The cups are great for the top 6 B teams, not so great for teams with thin squads like ours.

Wow, you lot are in full on melt down mode.
You realise over the last 17 league games (Since early February) we sit 3rd on points earned, behind City & Liverpool.
Ive seen much bigger teams than Palace get shocked in a cup game, it happens!
Yes we are better away from home, and thats because teams push on to us when they're at home, whereas at Selhurst teams sit back due to the fact they know we're one of the best counter attacking teams in the league and we struggle to break that down.
Of course id love better results at home, but lets be realistic, 1 point v Everton and 3 from United is pretty decent.
Sheffield United were always going to be tough to beat during the first quarter of the season (same for Norwich) due to the buzz around the clubs getting promotion, but they will drop off once the adrenaline subsides.

We do lack goals, but we will score more than enough to be more than safe in 35 games time.

We have the wonderful prospect of just about staying up and scraping together a squad of carthorses in the summer. No work on the ground and little in the academy. We may even stay up next year. It's not that enjoyable or exciting anymore - particularly at home where a contrived singing section creates our atmosphere. We will look back at our time in the Premiership with great fondness and remember all of our wonderful players such as Benteke and Meyer. Something needs to change - ownership hopefully.

- Pre-season is fitness, not results (unless you're an Arsenal fan hoping to win the Emirates cup)
- You could argue that Spurs haven't had a striker replacement for Harry Kane for years, they manage. Also, right back - Martin Kelly.
- Points mean more than goals, of which we have a points tally taking us to top 10 in the league.
- Same as point before.
- Carabollocks cup
- I'd argue every team in the worlds best player "wants to leave" unless you are an elite club. Mainly because unless you are an elite club, your best player can always better themselves.
- We have 3 strikers at the club, one of which scored at Old Trafford.
- I'd agree with you on the scouting, although I do think sometimes it's too easy for people to use the phrase "well why didn't we sign them"
- I work in construction consultancy, it's mental for anyone to think this stand would even be ready for construction yet. I've never known a project be that quick before and I've worked on bigger projects than a football stand.

I'm not sure how comforted I am by the suggestion that Parish is mentally ill.

I hate to break it to some of you people on here but listen up, barring a miracle this is as good as it gets!

If you aren’t happy with this then you are in for a miserable life as a Palace fan and it might be better for your mental heath to follow a different sport or club.

Bit unkind, I think.

We seem to be a very unhappy club at the moment. We just seem to be drifting. A good example is Andros who has had a poor start to the season culminating in his dropping against Utd. He then criticised the club on twitter and seems to be a very unhappy bunny. Another wanting out perhaps?

I started this thread as a tongue in cheek way of highlighting the website consuming melt downs that occur after every defeat.
Since then, Colchester have beaten us at home in the energy drink cup, which hasn’t gone anyway to reinforcing my outlook that ‘everything will be fine’. In reply to the chap that says ‘where do we all stand on this now’, my response is this:
1) Last season we accumulated our highest ever prem points total.
2) Michy did not need replacing. His work rate and desire lacked that of even Benteke and I for one would have been mortified if we’d made the same mistake of throwing mega money after a luxury yet unhungry player to secure him for another season. For anyone who disagrees with this assessment - see this post where I got absolutely slaughtered for criticising Bentekes ability soon after we bought him, I’d bet a few of you make an appearance there too and I’m glad you all caught up eventually.
[Link]
3) The AWB moan - we got £50 million for an inexperienced (caveat -clearly world class) right back. I repeat, he is a right back. Our club is borderline financially struggling. Would I have wanted them to spunk some of that £50 million on a Castagne, Clyne or Danny Simpson over working with Joel Ward and Martin Kelly? No I would not. Anyone who can’t see that we needed those funds as a god send to dig ourselves out of a big wage pit hole has a limited understanding of modern football.
4) Ayew - had a superb AFCON, looks comfortable on the ball, took his goal beautifully. Will come good. See previous thread re Benteke if worried about my assessment of Ayew.
5) General Doomsdayery - sometimes, we play crap and lose. Sometimes we play crap and win. Sometimes we play well and lose. Sometimes we play well and draw. Sometimes Roy makes subs an hour too late. Sometimes we go the first 7 games of the season without a goal. Sometimes Brighton beat us twice in the same season. Sometimes Watford kick us off the park. Sometimes our best player wants to leave. Sometimes our best player has to stay. Sometimes we get a new fashionable foreign manager. Sometimes we sack a new fashionable foreign manager after 4 games. Sometimes our chairman confirms for dragons den and then pulls out. Sometimes he dates Susanna Reid. Other times I don’t know who he’s dating. Sometimes Luka can’t string a pass together, sometimes Luka scores a vital penalty and we all cry and life is good. Sometimes we get turned over week after week but every time we pull through and finish where we need to be. This club gives us more f*ck you everyone else moments than any other club in the division (see beating Man United away) and for that we all need to be a bit more grateful.
Roll on Villa.
