24hour working would decrease most of our road, rail and other infrastructure projects timeframes.
I understand in and around houses but how many motorways and train lines are in these areas.
2 years odd to do the m20 two junctions.
Piss taking or jobs for the boys.
Then they moan about emissions ffs.
24h working it wouldve been done last year.

All relevant points above ^^^

It's where you draw the compromise. the EU gave the UK work standards and pay etc. , etc.

China does it's own 5hlt. It is not confined by minimum wage or working hours, environmental standards or other stuff , (nor is the UK now)

But it's cheap, so let's go for the quick and shoddy option.

Buy cheap,....buy twice

Anyone with any sense knows that the Chinese government and Chinese company's are one and the same. One says jump and the other says how high.

I really didn't understand the decision to include China in our mobile infrastructure.

Again you are making the assumption that the Chinese will somehow mistreat staff over here, that would not be allowed to happen and I think the unions would be all over it.

If they are to bid they will have to abide by UK employment laws.

Yes the Chinese are not a nice government but somehow we can be friends and do business with other despicable regimes e.g. Saudi Arabia and that's okay.

This is the real world we would be silly to not even consider it and maybe they can't deliver in which case they should not get the contract.

Nor me - clearly subsidised by the state.

Bruce Willis has a wonderful line in Armageddon "You know we're sitting on four million pounds of fuel, one nuclear weapon and a thing that has 270,000 moving parts built by the lowest bidder. Makes you feel good, doesn't it?"

So how does the UK get competitive with Europe ?

Perchance, eroding employment regulations and minimum wage tariffs. There is very little flexibility in any other areas.

Where do we think 'cost-effectiveness' will begin with HS2 ? Plus the added benefit of non-compliance with EU regulations on environment.

The HS2 rail line has been given an "unachievable" rating by the official infrastructure watchdog.

It has been granted a "red" warning for its first two phases - from London to Birmingham then onto Crewe - by the Infrastructure and Projects Authority. It adds there are "major issues with project definition, schedule, budget, quality and/or benefits delivery, which at this stage do not appear to be manageable or resolvable".

But apart from that, it's all OK.
Some people have already got very rich from this project. What do they care if it fails ?

If anything symbolizes the last 13 years it is surely HS2, a complete and unmitigated disaster.

Completely misconceived from the very start, a vanity project that could never have done what said on the tin, at a cost of well over £100 billions bleeding the rest of the rail network dry.

Even now, they don't even know if there will be a London terminus, when it completes in 2040 it will be as out of date as steam.

This should be cancelled and a full public enquiry to learn the lessons from it, the most obvious being never to let the tories in office again.

Grrrrrr.....

The lesson is that whatever governments do, they do it is an inefficient and incompetent manner, and that people should vote for parties that propose less government.

I would guess many many £hundredsofmillions spent on compulsorily purchasing land and property. Similar amounts spent on enabling works and infrastructure installation.
It's like they've just opened up a giant sink-hole for money.
It's like the Olympics preparation all over again, but on an endless timeframe.
A few months ago people were lauding progress and touting for another cash injection.
Now the brown-stuff is about to hit the fan, I wonder if there's anyone culpable around ? Funny, they were here a minute ago, . . . .
