I have some sympathy with the poster who mentioned it may not do any harm to go back to the Championship for a while.
We all seem to have been caught up in the Sky//Best league in the world/Moneybags hype that is the Premier League.
The fun of watching Palace (at least at home) has largely gone under Hodgson.
It was great fun watching the old third division team under Allison, the emergence of the play off winning team under Coppell and the play off winning team under Jedinak.
None of these were in the Premier League.
Last night I went to Charlton v Forest largely to check on the progress of old Palace boys Williams and Bostock.
They both played very well in substitute roles and it was a joy to go a reasonably priced game without the hype, VAR, and to see young players whom I had never heard of impress with talent and energy.
No Carragher, Neville or Shearer telling me what I should think.
Of course I will continue to go to Palace but it will be much harder for any young player to break into the first team in the Premier League and if one does emerge(like AWB) they will probably sold pretty quickly because of the high profile nature of the Premier League.
When we went up this time in the first couple of years we were very happy just to survive but 6 or 7 years on that does not seem much of an aspiration .
That is human nature with an increase in expectations year on year.
Last season I was terrified about going down and worried that we’d have to sell AWB and Zaha if that happened.
Well we’ve sold AWB anyway and Zaha still wants out.
We have become a stale club under a stale manager and that certainly isn’t ‘the Palace way.’

I couldn't agree less.

Being in the Championship will only achieve an exodus of our best players, a massive loss of revenue and set us back a decade in taking the club forward on any level.

What the owners need to do is use our current status to sell the club on while it is somewhat attractive.

We absolutely must redevelop the ground to a modern standard to at least have that to show for our record stay in the PL.
If we go down, the rats will leave the sinking ship and take all the money.

I understand the reasoning why people don't want to renew their season tickets and it's 100% their decision. What I'm confused by is the short memory of these 'long-term' supporters. I haven't been following Palace for 50 years but simply because of my age. However I still remember a wet, cold night in Winter watching us draw 0-0 to Preston where I don't even think there was a shot on target in the entire game. The highlight of the game was a pitch invader!

At what point does anyone think times are worse now than they were back then?! We fought for years and years to get to the promised land of the Premier League and now were here, people are giving up?

Like I say, it's everyone's personal preference to spend their money how they like but I just don't get it at all.

I can't see Parish selling out as he enjoys the kudos of being a football club chairman as it enables him to pull posh totty amongst other things

I do not think times are worse than they were; it is just I have reached the point where I am not enthused by the play, espically at home, & Benteke is the icing on the cake.

Benteke staying and being our forward is the s***tiest football decision this club will have made in years and for years. You watch. It’ll end badly.

It’s also about the precedent it sets; announcing to the world that we’ll offer you a contract regardless of performance is really going to attract the best of the best to join us and stay motivated.

On the wider topic of the thread; this will be my second year opting out of buying a ST - impossible to justify the costs attached to watch 5 wins a year, and even those we do win are s*** games decided by a penalty.

You’re looking at coming away from Selhurst in a good mood 2 or 3 times a season at the moment.

It is not a case of feeling guilty. It is up to you whether you want to attend or not but your comments are beyond ridiculous. I went to my first game at Palace in 1948 (although I can't say I remember much about it) and the team we have had for the last two or three years is amongst the best I have ever seen.

For the vast majority of my time suporting Palace it would have been incredible to think we would spend so much time in the top league.

I notice the original post does not mention beating one of the best teams in Europe and the English champions at their ground last season.

If you don't want to support Palace any more, fine, but Just don't bother us with your wining.

Have to agree.

According to the league table last season we were the 12th best team in English football.
We have been the 10th and 11th best in other seasons.
That's pretty good going for Crystal Palace FC in my years of supporting them.
Rough with the smooth , and compared to many seasons at the moment this is smooth.

That was after bringing Batshuayi in. Before that we were dross. Oh and the right back debacle as well.

We’re being taken for mugs, and actually the players who have to carry Benteke will see it that way soon as well, and as mentioned by EverybodyDannsnow in this thread and not the Benteke thread, the precedent of accepting and rewarding and keeping failure this sets has long term consequences and in trying to sign good players. We’re becoming more of a joke.

of course it was after we got Bats in , why do you think we did that ? The management got him in to help us stay up and finish as high possible.
They may have to do something similar again and if we stay in the Premier that's a good thing.
At the moment we are in the premier , every season as soon as we have a bad result the fan base on here goes into meltdown and says we are going down.
It's a good job the players don't give up as easy.

They certainly will be in the same or worse position. Whether we loan another forward in is another matter. But I am talking about extending Benteke’s contract until he retires because the owners cannot accept the reality of the player Benteke isn’t. They’re being stubborn on a losing trade, and that’s rarely a good thing.

Yes, I said we were good with a decent loaned in striker, but we are now proposing to do that for 5-6 seasons in a row. Can you honestly tell me that extending Benteke’s contract, doing that for another 3+ years (being shocking until Xmas with the same garbage and hoping for a very good loan striker being available), hoping to satisfy a manager, current and potential players is a good idea when all you’ll be doing if he does get sold is recouping the wages of the extension, meaning what’s the point financially anyway?

If anyone was thinking of signing him next summer so we get our money back asap as has been mentioned then they’d be on the phone to his agent to advise him not to extend.

This is so moronic I’ll be done with CPFC Parish, josh and blitzer. We also have a manager who doesn’t play to this striker’s strengths (although he can’t read a simple tap in ball), and we no doubt either have no idea who will succeed Roy if he leaves next summer or it’ll probably be someone who doesn’t play to Benteke (like FDB and Roy) or Freedman because anyone talking any sense with financial needs will be ignored.

Parish is clueless on football, is advised by inexperienced people and former players and now acting out instructions off a spreadsheet or from shareholders with even less of a clue or sh1t as to the consequences of it.

Fvcking joke. It won’t be a difficult decision after this season anyway, watching Ward get pulled to bits as well as the wardrobe upfront scoring his one goal for the season, cupping his ears to us to say ‘what’s your problem?’
