The strategy seems to be try and scrape by this season with no plan other than short term.
If you take a similar sized club e.g Watford they already have Deeney, Gray, Success and Okaka as strikers with Delofeu, Pereira and Gray in the wide areas.
They’ve just purchased Sarr and Wellbeck even though they are well covered in attacking areas.
We’ve taken £45 million in on AWB and in attack have only purchased Ayew at £2.5 m because he was cheap.
I think we may just have enough to survive but if you thought last season was bad at home wait until this season.
Four/five central midfielders strung across the park with lots of sideways/ backwards passing.
Very odd as Parish has always seemed a progressive guy and has asked the fans to aim high with aspirations for the club, but there now appears to be a crippling lack of ambition.

I have suspected for the last year or so that things are not right behind the scenes and this window confirms it. SP’s silence is deafening. He has either lost interest or there is no money. We will go down this year or next without significant strengthening to an ageing squad. We have as gone as far as we can with the current owners. It’s sell up to a rich investor or risk plunging down a couple of divisions.

This pre-season we have brought in approx £46 million and spent only around £7 Mill.
If the AWB money was not available to spend to strengthen in key areas I would like to know the reason.
Last season our net spend was just over £10 Mill.
Supporters have been let down and will surely vent their spleens when,as expected, we start to struggle.

I know these sorts of behind-the-scenes things are sensitive, but we fans need some sort of statement soon.

Possibly, but equally we're enjoying(?) our longest ever run in the top flight.

This is how i see it. The Yanks want their money back. They probably took most of the AWB fee and wanted most of the Wilf money too so Parish pulled the transfer because we would have had no Wilf and no replacement either. The quicker they are out of the club the better.

im happy, we kept wilf and have strengthened the squad bar right back, however we have a player who is extremely experienced and has never let us down to play there in joel ward.

on top of that we only spend like £4m in fees whilst doing so...fantastic business.

bring on the new season...onwards & upwards.

I agree that something is going on behind the scenes with ownership. We're either in much worse shape financially than we know, and/or the investors are trying to cash out.

If SP is under investor pressure to cash out, it may be that he fought hard not sell Zaha. Based on AWB's cash, it seems clear that whatever money we make from sales will not be allowed to put back into new players. If we had sold Wilf for 60M, that money would have gone straight into the investors' pockets.

My point being, maybe SP did the best he could to give us a chance this season given unknown financial problems.

Regarding midfield, I thought it was a huge problem last year, so I'm hoping Camarasa brings some creativity there that could unlock some more scoring from our strikers.

Wishful thinking, but I want to look forward this season, and save the doom and gloom at least until we've seen how the team plays.

2020 Feb. (Van Aanholt) Palace 1 - 0 Newcastle

Yes definitely, simple movement with and without the ball has not been good at home for some time mostly due to feeble ball control and passing.

Great chances and opportunities were either missed or just wasted with bad decisions when scoring seemed inevitable so I feel we have no real problems with creating, our problem has been giving the ball away through sloppy passing and not being aware of danger.
