I was looking at the nsc before we played them last, they had a thread about how much they hate us, suprisingly, more were posting that they dont hate us than did, one saying we were just like them, supporting our local club instead of being glory hunters with a more successful London club, I never missed a palace/brighton game back in the day. Was there every boxing day at theres, got stoned on the beach by about 100 of them with my two pals, was in the park after the goldstone game when we went in to there end with the gate left open, used to wait at east croydon for them to arrive and leave, but, that poster saying we were just like them and not gloryhunters , and the majority saying they didnt actually hate us, took away that old slight erk i had for them.

That's two of the longest sentences I've read for a while!
Palace since 19 August 1972. Palace 1 (Tony Taylor) Liverpool 1 (Emlyn Hughes) |

I see from the HOL database that 100 years ago we played Brighton on CHRISTMAS Day, never mind Boxing Day. Hence the famous "Hark now hear the Palace sing" song could have been slightly more true to the original! (Season 1920/21 - played Brighton on 25/12 and 27/12, winning both games. Those were the days!) Edited by YT (08 Apr 2021 8.50am)

Good observations. My brother lives snd works in Brighton and only reports a bit of piss taking and no real antagonism from his Brighton supporting friends and colleagues. I witnessed all those things you talk about in the 70s and 80s and took a bit of a kicking outside Hove Station in 1979, but these days I don't hold any great grudge against them. I want to beat them obviously. Their typical fans aren't neanderthals like Millwall or the mix of glory hunters and knuckle draggers like Chelsea, and it makes me laugh all these geezers in their 20s and 30s who think they are going to war with Brighton and they don't even know why. Oh yeah, "because of Boxing Day" Hahahaha...

My daughter just walked into the living room and said "Dad, cancel my allowance immediately, rent my room out, throw all my clothes out of the window, take my TV, and stereo, and iPhone, and iPod, and my laptop. Please take all of my jewellery to the Salvation Army or Cash Converters. Then sell my new car, take my front door key away from me and throw me out of the house. Then disown me and never talk to me again. And don't forget to write me out of your will and leave my share to my brother.” Well, she didn't put it quite like that... she actually said... “Dad, this is my new boyfriend, he supports Brighton".

There was a YT video on the game on Friday as seen by some Brighton fans. They were laughing at the antics of the Palace fans and particularly the loon who 'invaded' the pitch. The rivalry was stated but they applauded the Fanatics for making it a fun night.
