Here on the other side of the Pond, NBC Sports compiled the top 25 goals of the season and awarded #1 to Andros, with Kompany's #2. Enlightened.

Fantastic achievement to win the proper award and overcome the plastic club bias. Can't in my lifetime remember a Palace player winning anything like this before.

I would have had this as goal of the season even if it didn’t come from the football boot of a Palace player. This was a thing of brilliance, it was a screeeeeeeeamer!

The crazy thing is that the report on Andros's victory that I read quoted one Ian Wright gushing about the quality of the goal and saying how it deserved to win. Is this the same Ian Wright who agreed to award the MOTD version to Vincent Kompany perchance? Edited by YT (21 May 2019 10.30pm)
Palace since 19 August 1972. Palace 1 (Tony Taylor) Liverpool 1 (Emlyn Hughes) |

Edited by YT (21 May 2019 10.30pm) He voted for the Townsend goal but the prats Lineker & Shearer outvoted him. I don’t understand the slagging he’s been getting.

We won the Big Match golden goal at least twice back in the 70s - Don Rogers v Stoke back in 72/73 and Alan Whittle v Sunderland in the 76 Cup 1/4 final. I think Nicky Chatterton might have won it for a team goal v Millwall but I might be wrong. I bet Townsend drinks Carling Black Label - and if he doesn't he should do now.

I am pretty sure Alan Whittle's goal in the 76 cup run away at Sunderland in the qtrs won goal of the season (although it was a long time ago so my memory isn't as sharp as it once was)!
