If you read the attachment where one of the accusers herself accuses the police of making up the charges, I'm not sure shouting 'conspiracy' holds a lot of weight. Definitions differ between Sweden and most of the world. Unless you're intentionally using the Swedish definition for effect rather than ours, you'll be aware that he's accused of not wearing a condom during a consensual sex act. Not that I'm saying anyone should get away with doing that either, rather that there are degrees of he said she said, and it's something that very easy for someone to stitch someone else up on, especially when you've enraged those in high places. I've explained why he'd have good reason to stay in the embassy even if he is innocent of these charges, and you acknowledge that he'd have no reason to imagine he wouldn't be extradited yet again once there. With that in mind and the fact that he was in Sweden beyond the point at which the charges were initially dropped anyway, I don't think anything he's done since implies that he's running away from the charges in Sweden. He repeatedly met with them here in fact. He's instead concerned about spending decades in prison in the US. Edited by dollardays (12 Apr 2019 1.07pm) Yeah, don't care. He's been accused of rape and should be tried as such. He's broken US law too so if he gets ten years after being tried then so be it. All I'm hearing is criminal apologists.

Journalists seem to be onside, all the headlines are about freedom of speech. Geezer is accused of rape ffs. It was consensual sex......there was no rape accusation in both cases. Both women only accused him of having sex without protection. He wasn't pulled out of that embassy for anything to do with Sweden. Edited by Stirlingsays (12 Apr 2019 1.19pm)

John Humphries then points out several times that under Swedish law you cannot charge someone in absentia yet just like the titanic she ploughs on ignoring this and repeating he was never charged. I have no idea if he is guilty and if Labour want to try and stop the USA extraditing him that is their prerogative but do get your facts right Diane. Oh and by the way many of the sisterhood aren't too pleased with your position dismissing rape victims. Aren't you supposed to stand up for them? Heard her on the radio this morning. Nothing intelligent ever comes from her. Hacking is a very serious crime. So is rape. Here is someone who obviously thinks the law doesn't apply to them. Perhaps we can not put the police who waited outside the embassy for years onto useful duties.

The more time goes by the more possible it becomes that “Dianne Abbott” is actually a protracted example of performance art. The twist turning out to be that she becomes the most brilliant Home Secreta...no, maybe not.

What has Assange done wrong in the UK? Skipped bail, so he has to be charged with that. Apart from that, tell the USA and Sweden if still concerned, in diplomatic terms to get knotted. Make it clear to the USA that the present arrangement whereby they can extradite from the UK but the UK cannot extradite from the USA will be terminated. Stop being pathetic. Abbott and Corbyn are quite correct here, it will be good to get rid of the grovelling conservative party and their record of subservience and disappearance from the international stage. The conservatives record on law and order is appalling what utter hyprocisy.

And the job done on leaking the Clinton emails played it’s part in Trump’s election so perhaps he’s going there for a big party.

Perhaps we can not put the police who waited outside the embassy for years onto useful duties. Exactly there is a way of opposing his extradition to the USA whilst making it clear that he has broken the law in the UK and if the Swedes want him he has to face the music there. All she has done is upset anti rape groups and the sisterhood with her ill thought out argument. Maybe the Swedes will say he has no case to answer that is the point you can then make the statements she did yesterday.
