AWB would likely be first choice as right back for RDC, his birthplace. Of our former players not born in England who could expect to be more certain of being selected for a place in international/intercontinental contests, we´ve had VicMo, Wilf, and Bolasie. Not that anyone on this site could really care, but the sport is awash with Brazilian born footballers overlooked by CBF selectors who have chosen to be citizens of European, and even Japanese, nations: Diego Costa, Eduardo (Croatia and Arsenal), just to mention two that immediately spring to mind. Of course, there can be no comparing why Brazilians left their home country and African born players being overlooked, but flight from poverty and gang and tribal wars in their countries of birth have surely had a part in all instances. Forgive me if I'm wrong but he was born in Croydon, unless that's what your C stands for, in which case Croydon aren't in the FIFA world rankings

They've just called up Callum Hudson-Odoi who has played 119 minutes in the league this season.
We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold... |

This is only my opinion so don't shoot me down in flames but Southgate was a Palace player so maybe he doesn't want to be accused of bias by picking Palace players. A full back drops out so he picks a Chelsea player with less PL experience than AWB who is not a full back. Go figure.

Do you sometimes think/wonder whether Steve P/Roy tell any 'English' prospective/academy players, that, joining CPFC will 'seriously damage your chances of ever playing for England'? Just asking
This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise. |
