All joking aside this opens up another can of worms, (not willys) as you are right. How can a woman transitioning to be a man dosed up on testosterone be allowed to compete ?

I'm not sure they would be allowed to compete as taking testosterone is banned.

Does anyone have a definitive answer on this?

It's only a matter of time before sports won't be able to be divided by gender. It may seem silly and would probably lower standards but I still think it is only a matter of time. So many young people are pan-gender or gender fluid that the current system will no longer work. How that will equate to the Premier League etc. who knows?
Something like the Olympics will be the first to change - probably on an event by event basis. Eventually a lot of sports will change. Sports will be vilified if they don't change.

How a person identifies can be distinguished from their birth sex which is why this debate has come up in the first place.

I can't see how the Premier League can be impacted by this. If a woman identified as a man and wanted to play for a top tier team, she wouldn't be good enough anyway.

I expect most sports to eventually bring in rules along safety and performance grounds that rule out trans people from becoming some kind of record breakers across the board.

I've always been of the view that if a female was good enough to play in a male professional football team and it was purely on merit then cool.

Same with cricket or well anything in life.

My attitude completely changes when it isn't purely based upon merit.

I also don't like hearing how people need to change 'culturally' to accommodate someone's gender/sexuality/sensitivity or whatever else it is.

Merit....the protection and promotion of competence before all other things. Productive people are the lifeblood of all that is good in the world. They made your phones, cured the diseases, operate your surgery and everything else.

Newton, by all accounts, was an arseh0le.......but thank feck for Newton.....That arseh0le did god knows how much more for humanity that all the well meaning nice people rounded up together could probably ever do.

I found this on the Guardian, of all places...

Yet another example of political correctness f***ing up people's lives.

'Politicised trans groups put children at risk, says expert'

'School counsellors and mental health service providers are bowing to pressures from ‘highly politicised’ transgender groups to affirm children’s beliefs that they were born the wrong sex, a leading expert has warned.'

This from today too

Sharron Davies fears for female athletes at Tokyo Olympic Games - [Link]

I think in time this will all thrash out in a way that makes sense, but it's definitely an issue that could upend female sports and endanger women in boxing and the like in the short term.

"International Olympic Committee (IOC) guidelines state that transgender women must suppress testosterone levels for at least 12 months before competition."

The problem with this is that studies show that, man or woman, if you take steroids at some point it conveys permanent advantages. The benefits are not something you can totally switch on and off. Though maybe they will look at the impact of this new ruling and take a results based approach.

So I do think bone structure wise and the like, there is no viable or ethical way of male to female sportspeople to complete against women in some sports.

The only grey area for me is with someone like Casta Semenya, who has a natural physical advantage due to her own biological makeup. It could of course be said that it's very unusual or uncommon, but find me a world class athlete who doesn't have aspects of their physiology that aren't. By virtue of their achievements they are naturally very unusual in one way or another. I'm not sure we should pick or choose which naturally occurring aspects in a person's body we snuff out or dial down with drugs.

Beyond such exceptions though, I share Davies concerns.

Exactly this. All this Gender Neutral bulls***. Male or Female only

Watch this normal sensible woman being attacked for normal views by an absurdist media and a 'trans' activist.

The left in action.

I agree that Semenya is an exceptional case. This is someone born as a woman or intersex...as ie she has no womb.... who is what we could describe as hormonally in a transitional state.

I can't see how it's fair to the 99.9 of women to let her compete with them though.....The only thing I can think of is for her to be banned and compensated.

My point is that if people very consistently win for years without any artificial enhancement, it's on account that there is something naturally exceptionally unusual/freakish about them. There are plenty of people across many sport that tick those boxes. The Michael Johnsons of this world, the Michael Phelps. If we could isolate and snuff out whatever biological blip makes them who they are, they would be pretty run of the mill.

Stopping M2F trans athletes from competing against women makes perfect sense because they have artificially enhanced performance, whereas Semenya hasn't. Though I appreciate your point that her unique biology clearly conveys a significant advantage, so I can see why they have ruled that Semenya can compete but with a testosterone limit that has to be adhered to. With that in place, logically her performance will suffer or she will retire, so it's a solution of sorts.
