San Mig was my staple.
Green Mahou was nice and very popular, but red was better imo.
And agreed, Cruzcampo is s***e.

Have to be honest here tux, and you will laugh, but during the really hot months I drank gallons of tinto verano, the draught one made by mahou.

I'm therefore impressed.

It seems I lied. I've just spent far too much time wracking my brain and only managed to remember 88 beers that I've tried. well, I'll often have an IPA or an ale but the brands are so much more local that I can't remember them.

Some interesting suggestions.

As mentioned previously, Curious Brew, its finished in Champagne casks before bottling. Love the stuff.
Secondly a newish discovery,Brooklyn Naranjito - a pale ale with an orange finish. Love the stuff.

Then there's Watneys Red, Double Diamond, Forest Brown etc.

There's a very good reason why these are no longer available.

There used to be an Ozzie beer -- briefly -- called Bluetongue. Really loved it (we were there on holiday and it was my favourite). Then a mega brewer, SAB Miller I think, bought it out (I don't know if Bluetongue was part of a larger brewer) and shut it down.

(I discovered this trying to find 100 beers to pretend to YT that I really did remember exactly 100 that I have properly tried and can recall.)

I can see that a name like Bluetongue might lack global appeal what with the sick-animal vibe :-)) . But the beer was delicious as popular tipples go and, from what I've read, it had grown very quickly in the Australian market.

About 65 jobs went, and the equipment was all sent to another part of Australia.

It just made me wonder if SAB Miller preferred the simplicity of established brands and found it financially advantageous to just shut it down.

Or maybe Bluetongue got a rebrand and has just resurfaced as something less 'diseased animal' out in Oz. Perhaps an Oz-based reader will know.

The brewing industry is interesting, anyway. Elephants, needing to control mice.

If you want good, fresh beer in a pub: drink local (or at least local-ish). This obviously means that the availability of beers will differ from bar to bar, town to town, region to region, but that's just an excellent excuse to drink more.

In terms of lager, in the North East of England, you won't find better than Hartlepool-based Donzoko's Northern Helles.

If you're in Scotland, Edinburgh Beer Factory, Pilot (Leith), Drygate and WEST (both Glasgow), Six Degrees North (Aberdeen), and Black Isle (north of Inverness) all brew good ones.

Your local offie or supermarket may actually stock a few of these, but they are all available to buy - bottled or canned - online.

Generally speaking, just avoid the rubbish micturated by multinationals and Brewdog, and you'll be fine.

Ask me about Ronald de Boer.
