How I long for the days when a typical Palace season is one where we flirt with relegation and stay up. Football didn’t start five years ago.

As far as I am concerned, a typical Palace Premiership season still ends in relegation.

To be fair that was then, now is the perennial dog fight.

We have been relegated from Prem four times so our stay up number is better than that

I am very concerned now. Usual comments on here. Compared to last April we are 4 top players down. Zaha Benteke Cabaye and RLC. 2 have gone, Benteke has shut up shop so yet again we are depenent on an out of form and injured Zaha.
How must he be feeling right now?
Cabaye and RLC or Meyer and Kouyate? Took me a nano second to answer and they were both injured last season.
Sadly we are going backwards.

Telling me no one could foresee that we would miss RLC or Cabaye? That Roy stating 6 months earlier in jan that we were already 7 players light on what he felt was a reasonable squad?? so to lose those lads, we are now 9 players short. Plus to lose and replace squad players.. we are weaker this season than last and last season we were screaming out for reinforcements.

A proven striker should have been the key target, not 'Oh CW is back soon, he'll be like a new signing' or 'It's ok we'll just stick a winger up front'

We tried to re sign Cabaye, offered him a new contract, gut he didn't want for various reasons, Roy and Parish also high hopes of getting RLC back, probably would have cone if Chelsea hadn't changed manager

I can and do blame Roy for Sorloth. You can't judge a player who doesn't get to play. A sporadic 10 minutes when the game has already gone, is not going to do anything to help settle a player into a system.

Roy keeps saying he's good enough, then play the lad.

He's had one start and what happened... Oh, He scored.

We have had a problem scoring for a couple of seasons, your right there but could anyone say after Benteke scores 17 goals, that the next season he would only score 2 in an injury ravaged side? I think not.

Look at Everton, they signed Rooney and then he couldn't get in the team, a team that was struggling for goals. Then they got Tosun? Scored a couple, now can't get in the team. He slated us in the press, now there's rumours that Everton want rid and guess who to.

We are competing with at least 8 other Premiership sides for goal scorers. They all have the same money we do and the same problem, but the club are expected to easily identify one, spent a sh!t load of money and quality for Europe.

Our problem wasn't that we didn't sign a forward, it's that we let one go in Murray and Parish has stated that his biggest regret was being talked into letting him go but again, if you have two managers in a row that wouldn't play him, were we really going to offer him a new contract.

It's down to the manager to motivate and get the best out of the players and build a team. Our manager is Roy Hodgson.

Roy will do OK for us (Hopefully) but it's going to be ugly.

How do you think you know more about Sorloth, than Roy and Ray who both have years of experience. They see him train everyday, but you who has never seen him train know better.
His one start was against Swansea reserves, hardly a reason to give him an automatic start. At best he can come on in the last 20 mins, when defenders are tiring.
What an earth has Rooney got to do with what’s happening at Palace.

We don't know what terms were offered though and it's my guess that they were greatly reduced from his existing terms

I expect he was offered more elsewhere so we offered below going rate and expected him to agree?

Sadly, as daft as that sounds would not be surprised.

Planning on vague assumption RLC might be available again also sounds possible but would not think Roy had any input into Cabaye wages or assumption RLC might be available

We knew Cabaye was leaving months ahead of time.

If anyone on here still thinks Meyer can do what Cabaye did for us, I would be surprised. I am not saying Meyer is a poor player, but he is nowhere near strong enough in the tackle to be up there with Cabaye.

Cabaye got a lot of stick for not scoring 30 yarders every week but he was an important cog for us, a player who could not only break up play but could pick a pass. Meyer is good at the latter but not strong enough at the former in this league as yet.

As for RLC you cannot build your team or tactics around loan players. As soon as he got picked for the World Cup we must have known we would not get him, and it was OBVIOUS Chelsea would get a new manager in.

We failed to replace RLC whatsoever, and so far don’t have a player doing what Cabaye did last year.

I am sure he was offered a lot more in Dubai, they’re are not known for being short of money. He is 32 years old, can’t complete a Premier game.

He would get a signing on fee and huge wages in Dubai with easier games each week. Why would he want to resign for us and why would we keep his wages the same on higher, when he can’t finish a game at this level.

It’s not hard to work out, what occurred.

The problem with Palace is simples no one in the club can consistantly score goals , and that has been the case for the last 2 years, I can see that, you can see that, but the management stay quiet , then hope someone will come along to get them out of the sherbet like a new manager or 3 teams worst than Palace. I can almost predicts Roys interview after the next match .

Commentator "Well Roy you just missed out yet again"

Roy " Thats Football I thought we showed how good a team we are" and then rambles on how he saw the game

Commentator " Thats true Roy but where do you think its going wrong"

Roy " We are just missing that final ball at the moment and putting it in the net "

And so on and so on .

There must be at least 2 forwards in the world that our talented scouting team can source and keep quiet about for the upcoming January tranfer window otherwise we are doomed .

I have never said that know more about Sorloth than Roy, that would be ridiculous. He does see him in training everyday.

There are players that do wonders in training but then come match day, they are poor and vice versa. But I don't care what anyone says, you can never really see how a player is going to do in a team unless they get a good run of games. Am I wrong?

The world and his wife want a striker that can strike. Benteke was amazing in training last season, Roy said it lots of times in his press conferences. I personally thought that he would come good, as did many others and his contribution to the team when he did play was great but no goals.

My main point is that, we have brought in players to improve the squad and we're not giving them a decent chance. They can't even get a shout ahead of the player they have been brought in to improve on.

I say again, if Ward hadn't been injured, I can't see how Roy would have ever given AWB a chance in the first team. We now know how good he is purely by chance.

Riedawald, not given a decent chance, Guiata, not give a decent chance, Sorloth, not being given a decent chance but Ayew, who everyone knows all about can get a start, Schllup, who is a good left back, gets played, out of position, Kelly, a good squad player, gets played ahead of Jairo. McArthur, played out of position, Townsend, played out of position, Zaha, played out of position, Meyer, played out of position. Those decisions are made by the manager and that's why we are where we are.

It's not terrible, I say again, I don't think we will go down but wave goodbye to a comfortable, season where we push on, as we all hoped for. We're going to have another "Palace Season", and that's cool, I just wanted a little more this time.

Roy does see his players day in day out but we look at the league table and imho, we should be doing better with what I think is one of the best Palace squads I have seen in a long while.

P.S, I mentioned Rooney and Tosun to highlight that everyone is looking for a goal scorer but it doesn't always work out, even for bigger or the biggest clubs. If Everton didn't give Rooney games after signing him, fans would wonder why..
