We are veering off topic slightly... The point I was trying to make is the free market is more effective than government for saving the environment. Another example, the clueless politicians behind the Paris Accord wanted to see a massive hit to the US economy – with factories shut and jobs lost – to reach an arbitrary temperature level when efficiency improvements in US manufacturing through better technology is reducing carbon anyway. Yep, I agreed with Trump saying the PCA was rubbish and he was right to get out of it, but I was disappointed that he didn't really offer a solution. This is the problem with politicians, they do these 'great' things like the PCA to save the World, but when you really get into the details of these treaties, there aren't any hard targets that must be reached and no severe penalties. This is the state of the World unfortunately.

Speaking of Dyson, I saw this in the Guardian today. Young engineers to get rewarded for their green living ideas. 'Cutlery made from potato peelings and a robotic cleaner that can tackle pollution in rivers, lakes and canals are among the groundbreaking international designs shortlisted for the prestigious annual James Dyson award.' The US pulled out of the Paris Climate Accord (signed by Obama) because it was just a virtue-signalling deal from the European and world leaders at a major cost to jobs. The likes of Chine and the EU were never going to adhere to their 'pledges' to reduce carbon. All of those on the left jumped down Trump's throat but it turns out he was right to. 'Only 16 countries have emissions reduction targets matching their promises to avoid catastrophic climate change' [Link] The fine journalism from the Independent doesn't actually name the 16 countries in the article! My own research finds it's: Algeria, Canada, Costa Rica, Ethiopia, Guatemala, Indonesia, Japan, FYR Macedonia, Malaysia, Montenegro, Norway, Papua New Guinea, Peru, Samoa, Singapore and Tonga. It also turns out that total US greenhouse gas emissions have decreased by 2.7 percent from 2016 to 2017 because of technological breakthroughs, ie the private sector. Tarquin here from Extinction Rebellion I thought you Hollers would like an update on this week's London protests. Firstly apologies for being late to the demo yesterday. I woke up and had to charge my IPhone and then realised I had to clean my Nike trainers. Getting across London was a major bore for some reason traffic was ground to a standstill you'd think the Mayor would do something about that. Anyway when I finally got there it was such a great turn out never have I seen so many white middle class people in one place. Our plans for today, we shall be disrupting the underground in protest about all these private cars in London why people don't use public transport beats me. Charlotte and I can't make Friday's demo as we are jetting off to our holiday home in Tuscany but do keep up the good fight. Now where did I leave my Fitbit.

Nice one They're trying to drum up publicity for their group really, and it appears to have worked a treat. It'll turn off those of us wanting to just get on with our day, but I'm sure publicity for and interest in the group will increase massively and that's what direct actual is all about, whatever the cause. Us average Joes just spout off on a forum. For those with a stronger view about how they want the world to be, maybe the odd one will sneak a few flyers up in the dead of night, but without nailing your colours to a movement publicly is it conviction or cowardice? There was a guy on Sky News saying that he was more than willing to serve time for this cause, so no matter whether we agree with it or not he's willing to pay the price of his conviction. 'They don't make em like they used to' applies to almost everything nowadays, and it's surprising how many people don't realise that. It applies to everything from low quality products to not being able to replace most phone batteries nowadays!

I’m curious as to how the plastic bag policy works. Go into a shop and pay for a bag (I have enough Bags for Life to see out Methuselah) but when my missus does the grocery shopping online they send about 30 plastic bags. Where are they supposed to go?

Day 4 and the Mayor of London has been suspiciously quiet about the disruption of ordinary Londoners lives by these protestors. When they finally clear off for their Easter holidays I wonder if they will leave any litter behind. If they do I hope the tabloids highlight it. As for Khan or Dr Dolittle if the Tories can put up a decent candidate I think they have a great chance as even the most one eyed Labour supporter most be wondering what exactly he does, apart from blaming everybody else.

Just heard Mayor Khan on the radio. Apparently people have the right to protest was the best he could come up with. Yes Mr Mayor they do but they don't have the right to break the law. Instead we get police dancing with demonstrators at Oxford Circus. By the way Vauxhall bridge has now been take. London has fallen.
