I think now we are a Premiership club and we have had some success in staying up, we need to look at the way we keep the club on an upward trajectory. We need to overhaul all aspects of recruitment, how we get players through from the youth set up and more importantly develop the scouting network.

We over pay constantly for players as we are always struggling when we do. We need to start buying players when we identify a squad need and buy for the future.

Additionally there should be a succession plan in place constantly. Look at Watford - they have done this so no matter who the manager is, the squad gets better and they have a way to play.

We don't and what we are doing is unsustainable.

I looked at this thread expecting to see the OP shouted down for even bringing up the subject.

But, no. Everyone seems happy to pile in and start coming up with new names to take over.

Unbelievable.

A few defeats and most fans are happy to throw Hidgson under a bus.
Clamouring for Stevie G, Phil Neville, Jose etc, pathetic
Roy isn’t going anywhere soon, just signed a 2 year deal, we need stability, as the revolving managers door is undergoing maintenance.

Not everyone.

With respect, my understanding is that the debate has not centred around a call for the imminent departure of Hodgson and considering the favoured replacements but for discussing the potential candidates when Hodgson eventually departs, given that his contract runs to the end of the following season.

That said, I am far from cerebrally blessed so I might be off track on this matter.

We have one of the most experienced managers in the League. I'm happy with that.

I have a box of crayons.

With respect most of the names banded about are just fanciful. What has Stevie G, Phil and Gary Neville achieved in management.
The so called debate is flawed, due to the fact in 2 years the landscape will be totally different, we could well be in the Championship, then no one will be interested.

I concur with these sentiments.

At the beginning of this thread I asserted that when the time comes, then there will be a clearer picture as to the potential possibilities to replace him and that it was folly and indeed premature to engage in such discussion at this juncture.

We have no crystal ball to predict the landscape and our situation at the time Hodgson departs.

To be fair, as Willo says, nobody is throwing Hodgson under the bus. I thought his interview after the Bournemouth match was the classiest football related TV that I had seen this season. However it is realistic that we will have to come up with another name at some point so there is no harm debating it now.

It is a lot more constructive than half the transfer news posts we have to wade through anyway.

Strictly, that's 99% of such posts.
