We frustratingly seem to like an albatross hanging around our necks during the first quarter of a season. Last year we set all sorts of negative records and this year we haven't scored at home yet.

That gets into players minds massively and silly things like Sakho missing from 3 yards creep in and the media make it a big issue.

Losing to Liverpool and Southampton is fine in the grand scheme of things but it does annoy me we can't even pull a goal back. It just means the next match you have the inevitable moaners talking about "Don't see the point of paying for a season ticket we never score at home" etc. At least kill that vibe dead ASAP.

Correct & only the second time in our history that we have failed to score a goal at home in the 1st 3 games. Let’s hope we don't set another record v Wolves (awaits stato alert ref!)

In answer to the OP, I'm happy with our points tally so far & whilst it could have been higher had we taken our chances at Watford & Sakho hadn’t shut his eyes on Saturday, it’s 7 more compared to the same stage of last season.

A stockbroker urged me to buy a stock that would triple its value every year. I told him, at my age, I don't even buy green bananas!

Trouble is we need to pick up points at home against teams like soton and Newcastle, our next 2 games are Bournmouth away and wolves at home - both of which look tricky. Followed by everton arsenal Chelsea spurs and man utd.....

Which being contrary, as Palace ever are, this could be the most likely source of additional points.......

Let's say we manage 1 win in those, we could be on 10 points from 13 games, which to be fair, isn't that bad either.
I do feel our squad is on par with last season, but we really needed to get rid of Benteke and Sorloth. I would've rather kept Sako and brought Ayew in with a decent striker up front.
Also, you have to say we are in a better position this season than at the same time last season and, apart from Spurs, we are the lowest spending team this season. If the option was real to get Antonio, then it's been a balls up, because he would have added more pace and directness to our attack.

I believe that Newcastle's net spend was slightly less than ours.

To answer the OP question I am not surprised it's Palace! nothing surprises me that's why I love the club. Supporting this great club of ours is never boring.

to answer the OP question...

no im not, i was suprised by our start last season, but i didnt really see us doing any buisness over the summer that made me think we would be any stronger than last season.

I am of this opinion as well.

Guaita hasn't featured as a result of Hennessey's improved form, Kouyate has just recently come into the team,Meyer hasn't started a game and Ayew was only introduced after Benteke (One goal since Jan and that a penalty) got injured.

lots of interesting posts and yes i thought we would have more points, the upside is we do have a better squad, once everyone knows each others game, maybe we will look like beating anybody, but do hope one of our strikers starts hitting the net,we need that big time and 15 goals is a good return.

Just over a point a game isn’t the end of the world, but f**k me how boring have the last 2 home games been? Can’t see us playing many worse teams than Southampton or Newcastle.
If our luck was in , we get something against Southampton, Sakho heads in from 3 yards and we are flying.
If our luck was out , we draw/lose at Huddersfield, Newcastle nick a winner and it’s the end of the world.
For a relatively easy run of games the performances haven’t been good enough, but we are mid table.

Spot on - this ladies and gentlemen is mid table mediocrity we probably will have!! Where luck can either make it exciting or nerve wracking for a season! Finishing the season on 46-48 points and not worrying about the last 5 games! However - the atmosphere can either make or break the enjoyment for a lot of people!! Those 2-2 draws at home to Everton and Burnley will need it!

Some great replies on the thread thank you
All I would say though is that there are are few “ but if Ward and Sakho had scored “
Which is precisely my point
We aren’t scoring because in front of goal we aren’t good enough
Also a lot of love for Cabaye on here , but last year I felt he was punching above his weight and if he had stayed there were no guarantees of good performances or being injury free .Roy released him at the right time

I think on another day that header Sakho would have scored - 2 extra points in the bag, 9 points and sitting level with 9th. It could be a lot worse.
