With the greatest of respect, I have made by views on the standard of refereeing in England patently clear and I have nothing to add.I'm not going to get drawn into any further debate on this matter. Because even you cant defend Sundays referee???

Fair enough ref was crap. However, the main problem was our lack of bite up front, we missed 3 clear and pretty easy chances. One mistake at the back less or one cleaner strike and it would have been a draw or a win for us. We can't change how crap the ref is but we can, for instance, stop pretending Benteke is going to score.

i have no doubt that if Wilf had deliberately raked the back of a Watford players achilles he would have been sent off.

Ref bottled it because it was 5 mins in. More than 10 mins into the game and he gets sent off. It is unusual to get pens/red cards in the first 5 mins of games, because refs are not usually put in that situation so early. Its a real issue though as referees need to give the same fouls on the halfway line as they do in the area, and they need to give the same decisions in the first minute versus the last, but they just dont. Human nature perhaps. Maybe there is a culture of fear with the refs to not make a mistake, and they would rather NOT give something and make a mistake, than give something and make a mistake. There have to be repercussions for poor displays but when you make refs afraid of making a bad decision then they will tend to bottle it rather than give it. Lets face it we have had plenty of times when we should have had a guy sent off and it didnt happen, albeit this was a real nasty one. Luck generally evens itself out over the season. We got away with a pen vs Fulham and coughed up a dodgy one versus Liverpool, for example. We have also had occasions where the opponent was down to ten men and we looked WORSE. lol. But lets face it, Souness was right, he absolutely bottled it, probably because it was the first major thing to he had to do.

As a general point when decisions have been made we've heard pundits saying the ref ruined the game by as you say giving one early on but clearly in this case we should have gone down to 10. Maybe another example of why refs should come out and explain the decisions made ?

had the ref not given him a yellow then we would be seeing him get few games ban. The biggest issue is the rules the game has changed and its either a contact sport or not because just look at the chelsea penalty yesterday that was a very good tackle yet because theirs contact after he has first touched the ball it's deemed a foul what is that about this sort of thing has destroyed football same with how you flick a player he does down holding his head.

Schar definitely makes contact with the ball but he wraps his legs around Alonso in a scissor action. In pre-season meetings with the players and clubs, they were informed that just because a player makes contact with the ball, it doesn't mean that no foul can be awarded against the player making the tackle. But I suspect we will all see many instances of players in similar circumstances bellowing out "Ref - I got the ball" !

Surely ut should bd if he gets the ball first but then follows through dangerously it should be a foul (like vardys sending off). Schars follow through was hardly dangerous and IMO shouldn't havd been a penalty. It's basically banning the sliding tackle, because it's almost impossible to slide in, win the ball, and not touch the player.

It was a penalty based on the current dictum that if a player wins the ball yet wraps his legs around the opponent in a scissor action and brings him down this is adjudged to be a foul.Bit different in the old days !

Can you show me where it says that on the fa rules, because try as I might I can't see anything saying that. Or are the refs just making up their own rules now.
