More Cake-ism from Boris. Saying one thing to appeal to Tory liberals and another to appeal to the far right 'kippers.

You're one for food references but I do agree your point.

It's a shame that all the right wingers on here are capable of is taking issue with the word gammon rather than engaging in the "meat" of the issue.

'All' of the right wingers.

As for using the racist word 'gammon' to refer to the white working class.....that's alright you're baizuo anyway.

That word the Chinese use to describe what they regard as naive if well-educated 'white left' elites in the west.

In recent months, the word “gammon” has become a shorthand for middle-aged, right-leaning white men who won’t stop railing against a system they feel is working against them, even though they are ultimately among its greatest beneficiaries.

Fancy that....the cheek of it....in their very own country and all.

Lets go to China and tell the Chinese that they have a cheek to expect to benefit more than those who don't follow Chinese culture......In China.

I've lived on 4 continents (yes, indeed beyond your beloved EU fortress), and I have come across plenty of people that like and indeed indulge in this kind of humour. Mexico: "working like a China" with the associated noises not entirely unlike those in the video. Australia - love a ribbing of the "Asians" (I remember the stand-up in Melbourne when I lived there). The Swiss - love taking the piss out of the German accent. Argentina - good friend of mine loves the way South Park makes fun of the Mexican accent.

Meanwhile, where they have had prior exposure to British comedy, they almost universally enjoyed (in some cases revere) the often self-deprecating, frequently parroted work of Monty Python, Fawlty Towers, Only Fools and Horses etc.

But, for all those citizens in all those "nationalities involved", I'd like to thank you for taking offense on their behalf. I don't doubt they are eternally grateful.

You are not the all-knowing widely-traveled oracle you think you are. The constant attempts to paint the UK and British as racist backwater bigots is a tedious trope that merely highlights your ethnomasochism. I'm sure those of us with an "inferiority complex" see right through it when they consider the provenance of the accusation.

Welcome back Dave.

The people who are getting het up by criticism of BoJo and claiming to stand up for "free speech" yet get similarly het up by people wearing anything they like and saying it shouldn't be allowed here warrant being referred to as a gammon. I wasn't referring white heterosexuals as gammons to be clear, just a subset of white heterosexuals who meet the above (and below) criteria.

In recent months, the word “gammon” has become a shorthand for middle-aged, right-leaning white men who won’t stop railing against a system they feel is working against them, even though they are ultimately among its greatest beneficiaries.

Muslim women who wear whatever they like don't warrant being called letter boxes or bank robbers.

So you don't believe in free speech then. Make up your mind, you're all over the place!

I'm not het up about gammom whatsoever, but was simply pointing out your hypocrisy.

Not only that, but they are devoid of any humour.

I find you insulting.
Enjoy.

but your're not unique and that's the big problem. Delusions of grandeur about British 'humour' when every nation has it's own humour that's just as funny, if not more but you as a typical Brit probably don't understand their language.

Yep there are idiots in every country but when it comes to insulting other nationalities based on their mother tongue, the UK is the big, big winner. Really, you just don't see it because you're immersed in it.

You think it's cool to continually insult Brits on here? What's your nationality?

It's pretty clear to see the left wingers agenda on this.

Generally you hear pro feminist, anti organised religion claims. However, on this occasion they have the chance to bash a rich tory brexiter, so they have forgotten a lot of their own core values.

I'm with Boris on this one

Let's face it, you can't imagine can't imagine a god creating a universe and all of its immense complexity, then on a small, mostly harmless planet millions of years later humans evolve and after a few thousands of years they invent both religion and textiles.

Then someone decided that God decreed that all women have to wear full face veils to comply with a set of values only determined by one species on that obscure planet.

Some women may say they like wearing them. I liked dressing up as a ghost as a kid. But I would suspect that most women don't have a say and their voice on the matter is repressed.

They've only become widely worn in this county in the last decade or so, and as Boris rightly points out, they are "cult"ural rather than a religious origin as there is no scripture that says women are required to wear them.

Boris doesn't say they should be banned outright. Just that people in certain circumstances should be able to state their objection to them.

On a final note, I mostly agree with him because they look f***ing rediculous.
