Media conspiracy (Incorporating Complaints About Mirror & Mail)

I think it's just a tad ironic that this thread has unanimous support for the notion that modern journalism is complete rubbish and yet we have 65+ pages of worried supporters on the subject of Wilf leaving the club on another thread, which would never have been given the fuel to burn like it has if it wasn't for the same crap journalism that we refer to here.

Your 65 pages of people losing their heads over the latest Wilf rumour may very well be some of the people. I noticed that on yesterday's gossip page over at bbc.com they ran both the Mirror "story" an a photo of the front page. I realized that Auntie was making its own comment by putting it on the Gossip page and not reporting it as news. Sky News Transfer Centre totally ignored it from what I could see. So, the two most prominent online media web sites didn't give the whole thing much credence if any. The takeaway for me is really to learn to ignore sites like Bleacher Report. They will run with anything without so much as a by your leave. To my mind, they are in danger of becoming sport's answer to Info Wars, which is being sued all over the place for its reckless disregard of the truth. Meanwhile, their original story reporting bot the Mirror and the Mail's fantasies is not readily available.

What gets me is how easy it is still proving to be for national media esp.tabloids to lie about so much whilst simply getting away with it. Whatever happened to Levenson?

In a fantasy land where you could set up a court system which will work for free and decide on these things it would be constantly overloaded with claims....Many of which would be risible. I believe that we get the media that we deserve and Britain has dumbed down considerably in recent decades. It seems that Brits are hungry for gossip and all the media is doing is obliging them and like all gossip some of it is true and some isn't. When I was young the press (both tabloid and broadsheet) used to write reports on matches and not much else but it's comparatively recently that people want to know what an England International's wife is wearing or similar rubbish I fear that this is worryingly accurate.
