Is this one day cricket? Teams seem to get bowled out so quickly. In truth though....I think England bowled very poorly to allow India to get over 300 in those conditions. There's a reluctance to criticise Anderson and Broad and co but it was far too short all innings.

Third time in two years England have lost all 10 wickets in a session That didn't happen once in previous 78 years (1938-2016) (BBC)

Nonchalence evidently creeping in within some quarters. I would've originally dropped Buttler for Curran if it was seemingly mandatory for Stokes to come back into team...however Buttler has at least produced something of an innings today. Curran offers more versatility though.

It's him and Bairstow and one innings by Woakes not a lot else. But like you I have time for Curran......I don't think Stokes has earned walking back into the side......and so far perhaps he shouldn't have. Edited by Stirlingsays (19 Aug 2018 7.11pm)

Fundamentally it was wrong to put India in to bat on a flat Trent Bridge wicket. If in doubt, bat as then the match is in your own hands. A bad day for Rooty and I think it will be 2-1 in the series. England can still win the series but India are not number one for nothing. I am performing a prolonged rain dance hopefully for 4 weeks !

Indeed they are ranked No 1, however whatever the results in the remaining matches in this test series, India will still leave England as officially the world’s best Test team. By the end of this campaign India could have lost seven of its past nine and still have a five-point lead on top of the table. It raises some questions over the ICC’s methodology which does not weight victories at home any differently to wins away.India away from home don't have such an impressive record and they have played more Home than Away since the current ranking period began in May 2015 - played 21 of its 37 Tests at home. My perpetual beef against England, the leaking of runs to third man, has at last been acknowledged by Michael Vaughan no less. 'There have been awful lot of runs lost in the third man area' Really Micheal, how brilliant of you. And will we be seeing a fielder to cut off the incessant highly successful nurdling to 3rd man? Not a chance. Computer says 'no'.

Vaughan is definitely right to criticise many of our batsmen by way of how they have played like a one day side e.g. not bedding their way into the game and throwing their bat at bowls that should've been left. How too many of our players have thrown away their wicket so needlessly as a result of poor self-discipline and rash decision-making.

Cook was a brilliant bat, but a poor captain - I'm beginning to think the same about Joe Root.
