Why do you expect loyalty from footballers as they are merely employees of the club and are just as entitled to move employers as we are Don’t think the OP was expecting it, but there used to be loyalty. In any case I don’t think it applies here. YC wasn’t as loyal to Newcastle or PSG as he was to Palace given he saw out his contract here. Good luck fella. Will never forget that cracking goal against Arsenal!!

Make no mistake. This is a huge blow for us and it is imperative we replace him. He’s the one player we have in the team who can bring the ball down and play. People keep referring to Riedewald as his replacement and I just don’t understand the logic behind it. I love Jairo, and he should definitely feature more for us. But he is a centre half turned holding midfielder. They are entirely different players. ...and Wan Bisakka a winger turned full back, or henry a winger turned Centre forward..even Southgate was a midfielder turned center back...so there is no logic to your point

Yohan is obviously going, like most top "name" footballers before him, to use the last couple of years of his active footballing life to round off matters with a nice fat pay cheque. Don't blame him at all and wish him well. He's been a class act during his time at Selhurst. Looking back to the days before the name "Pardew" became too toxic to mention in Selhurst circles, it was widely thought that Yohan had enjoyed working with Pardew at Newcastle and that that was a big factor in his decision to come to SE25. If that be true, that is something for which we can thank AP.

Palace paid Paris Saint Germain in the order of £10m for Yohan Cabaye plus we paid £5m per year in salary plus agents fees, bonuses that means it cost Palace between £8.5-9m per year for his services.

This sort of transfer policy is unsustainable. Of course it is if it applied to every member of the squad but if we want to stay in or even progress in the big boys club you cannot do it with journeymen and need a touch of class in addition.

I dont think we saw the best of him under Pardew who put him on a pedestal and kept reminding the other player how lucky they were to play with him. To me he played his best football under Sam and Roy when he became just one of the squad and had to fight for his place. Will be missed though

Can’t begrudge him going for the dough at his age.

It's all well and good saying that we should get a couple of loan players but don't forget that our recent record in the loan market hasn't been particularly good and last season's loanees were the exception rather than the rule

Well, now he's gone it is obvious we urgengtly need a replacement, someone better than him who can hold the ball and move forward with it.
