While having no sympathy for my Southern neighbors and hoping England will do well I found the whole thing yesterday a prime example of misplaced arrogance. If you do not want win the group, simply because you THINK the schedule will be more kind it is a massive insult to your next opponents. It is not going to take much to motivate the Columbia players and England has to hope karma does not come back to bite them in the bum.

I don't think it was arrogance. Southgate wanted to rest players and have others match fit for the possibility of having to play further on in the tournament. We lost because our B team isn't as good as theirs although with better strikers it could have been a win.

Personally I would have played Kane but if he had played and then had been injured or if he had played and then looked tired in the next match then it would have been the wrong decision.

As an England fan, I obviously want us to win on Tuesday but fully expect us not to which makes the wins all the more enjoyable. Not unlike supporting Palace.

It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses.

One will never win anything with calculations, if sport is not about winning games anymore it has lost it sense.
Now Sweden or Switzerland indeed may be easier then Brazil, who frankly have not impressed me much yet, but that is only one round.
Apart from decency and pride there is surely also a thing called momentum. Guess it makes a difference not being a real fan but can't see the point.

And what about the huge amount of extra pressure there is now on the team v Columbia? They may be generally experienced and not care much but it could backfire I think.

Greece won the euros with about 10 attacks and Italy have prospered in many tournaments without momentum.

I’m going to contradict myself a bit here but for good reason with Italy beating Brazil in the final group of 3 after the group of 4 in 82, but that was because Brazil were complacent in needing a draw v Italy. Gareth won’t have any nonsense from now on. It’s now high tempo all in, starting with their week long rest vs Columbia who won’t be as fresh. We’re going to need that freshness and will have it.

I’ve got my Amstel ready. I do drink it btw.

If Rashford scores then those knocking Southgate get their wish and out vs Brazil we go.

I actually thought Belgium were going to give the ball away at the end with that sloppy passing across the back including Fellaini. It was a similar feeling to when Palace fvck about and gift a goal away.

Arrogance? Surely arrogance is saying we don't give a f*** who we play because we'll beat anyone... Trying to make our route easier strikes me as the opposite of arrogant.

It's an insult to say we'd rather play Sweden/Switzerland than Brazil? Do you really believe that? Do you think the Swiss and Swedish players believe they have a better team than Brazil? They must find the bookies massively insulting, cos they all came to the same conclusion.

The whole fallout from this game is such a storm in a teacup - it's given us our best run at a semi-final in decades; quite how that can be considered the wrong thing to do is beyond me.

Colombia we got a chance, the Swiss we have a good record against but I don't think we'd beat Sweden. They look very good, beat the chihuahua chompers, thumped Mexico and were unlucky v Germany and they are a bogey team to us
