Really? Damned if he does or doesn’t. We’re talking about a war where there was mass murder of people from where his parents lived and had to flee. His passport or country of choice because they gave him a chance of survival doesn’t mean he has no allegiance to his country. Dear me. I have no problem him fleeing his country in war torn times, but he had no need to declare himself Swiss. We have many foreign nationals living in the UK, who are proud of their roots and heritage. They don’t claim to be English, but wherever they are from, as there isn’t a financial advantage, as with Shaqiri.

Probably plays for Switzerland because he spent nearly his whole childhood growing up there, and probably because Kosovo aren’t very good or big, not helped by mass murder. He can’t have much allegiance to his homeland, as he switched to be Swiss quickly. It’s almost as if you completely forget Wilf’s allegiance was firmly with England prior to being ignored for 5 years, just to suit your argument.

We have had an ethic Kosovan player in past Shefki Kuqi. He took up Finish nationality and played for them internationally. It seems fairly common for players not to play for country of their birth, there is along list. The Serbia / Kosovo Alabanian difficulties in football are made more complicated by fact that until kosovo was recognised as a country by FIFA the international team for Kosovo would have been Serbia. I am sure that Willo can tell us if any ethic Kosovan Alabanians played for Serbia. I suspect Kosovan Serbs will still be playing for Serbia. (again a Willo question) On the question of should we try to sign Shaqiri? Personally I think not. Not because of any potential personal problems between him and Luka but because although brilliant on his day, he is not a team player so a more limited player with a better work ethic suits Palace better

As you brought him up, at the time he choose to play for The Ivory Coast, he wasn't ready for the English team. His game has improved hugely over the last 2 seasons, if he had waited, he would of been picked for England. It was his choice and right.

Seems very baseless. his country or the part he's from Kosovo doesn't or didn't have a national team that was recognised. So he played for the country that took him in... Can't blame the guy for that can you? Easy to say he sold out but likely hugely wrong. Can well imagine scoring against Serbia in the World Cup will go down for him as one of his best and most memorable goals.. Good for him. That being said don't want him in our team thanks.

Because you’re using it as some sort of benchmark as to why he’s not suitable for palace. Because his allegiance doesn’t lie with his country of birth. Wilf’s allegiance didn’t lie with his country birth, there’s literally interviews from when he was younger where he says he’s English, he jumped before he was pushed. So I’m just exploring the double standards of the benchmark you’ve placed.

He was just ignored (and had Townsend picked ahead of him at one stage) which is why he left.

Nigerian, ‘claimed to be English.’ Bl00dy hell.

Fcuk me not ANOTHER Shaqiri thread...he's shyte...end of! He isn't a team player Granted he scores the odd good goal...but really?? I'm continually astounded by the number of people who see players have the odd good 20mins and think we should buy them...and with the reasoning listed above how can anyone realistically want him in our club!?
