The former Tory party leader Michael Howard has confronted the Israeli prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, over Israel’s killing of hundreds of Palestinian protesters, demanding to know why the country’s defence forces used live ammunition to curb the protests. Getting it yet? Even Tory ex-PM's do.

What a annoying statement. What you don't seem to be getting is that Israel is at an undeclared slow burn war with the Palestinians and doesn't give a feck what anyone other than the US thinks. I think some of us would say it is the tail wagging the dog here, that is Israel having too much influence over Trump.

The resolution agreed by all those countries to give the palestinians some measure of protection at the UN was after seeing and hearing the evidence, that's what the UN does, that is what it is for. Your endless reiteration is the only propaganda here.
You have no idea of what you're talking about. So the Palestinians need protecting for trying to storm Israel's border in the hope of subsequently attack Israelis??

The US aren't going to be even handed over the middle east.....And hell, even though I have lots of criticism for how we got here..... I'm not backing anti western nations against Israel.....that's what 'useful idiots' do. Nope, not happening. To paraphrase Einstein, the creation of Israel isn't positive....but once it's created it's fight or die. Edited by Stirlingsays (07 Jun 2018 5.14pm)

Few Points: The fence is not a border. The people of Gaza are under the occupying control of Israel since the 1967 war. How is it a border? Remeber there is no country of Palestine - so this is not a border. As the occupying power the government of Israel has a responsibility to the inhabintants of Gaza. However since the Democratic election of Hamas in free and fair elections Israel has imposed illegal collective punishment on the 2 million people of Gaza (for exercising their democratic right - the result of which Israel didn't like).

Obviously, you are going to ignore me, my link, your reference to ex pats being bigots, and come up with any interesting argument. So. I'll carry on just reading the rest of your responses with bemusement, knowing your shyness to respond to me is making my day. Note: had a business liquid lunch, so just having a laugh

It is on the basis of this that we as individuals, organisations and governements should be boycotting Israel until it changes its policies and engages in genuine peace negotiations.
The two state solution is a failed project. The Israeli left tried, but it ended in blood.....It would do so again. I'm afraid there is no zero sum game here. The two state solution would be Israel simply strengthening an enemy at its border for when another attacked it. While I regard what's happening as terrible, that's what war is.....and this is a war. The Palestinians will be slowly made to leave until Israel eventually makes the big push. I would advise any Palestinian who is interested in a future to leave. That's injustice....I make no bones about it, but it's the best advice. Edited by Stirlingsays (07 Jun 2018 5.22pm)

According to Haaretz (sorry, no link here , I'm not a subsciber) the match was originally set for Tel Aviv. The Israeli Sports Minister then moved it to Jerusalem without any consultation with the Argentine FA. That is when Argentina pulled out. My info comes from an email summary of the Israeli press called "News Nosh," which is provided by the group Americans for Peace Now. Front Page: Edited by kenbarr (07 Jun 2018 5.32pm)

My info comes from an email summary of the Israeli press called "News Nosh," which is provided by the group Americans for Peace Now. Haifa, not Tel Aviv, was mooted but never the confirmed venue. The venue was confirmed weeks ago so to use that as an excuse to pull out this late doesn't wash. Argentina pulled out because Messi got death threats and refused to go, and his team mates followed suit. Both Israeli officials and officials with the Argentine Football Association said threats had been made against Lionel Messi, the star of Argentina’s national team, and other members of the team. “My responsibility as the president of the A.F.A. is to work for the safety of my people, which is why I made this decision,”
